Wish Upon a Star in New Featurette for Disney’s Pinocchio

Before we get to see Guillermo del Toro’s more existential take on the boy puppet character, Disney is set to release their live-action adaptation of Pinocchio.

A new trailer has just dropped for the film, and along with it we have a new featurette looking into the magic of the film, as well as its star-studded cast which includes Tom Hanks, Cynthia Erivo, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Luke Evans. Watch this:

Though the film does stay pretty faithful to some elements of the original animation, we should expect some bigger, more bombastic changes when it comes to the live-action version—which is pretty standard when it comes to your Disney live-action remakes.

It’s pretty great that the studio managed to bring in Robert Zemeckis, who has worked with toys before with Welcome to Marwen. I’m pretty sure it’s Zemeckis’ involvement that also got Tom Hanks to be cast as Geppetto—which seems to be perfect casting by the way; who else should play Pinocchio’s father if not the internet’s favorite dad?

There’s also something there about Geppetto getting lost at sea and Hanks doing the same thing with Cast Away—which was also directed by Zemeckis, mind you.

Academy Award® winner Robert Zemeckis directs this live action retelling of the beloved tale of a wooden puppet who embarks on a thrilling adventure to become a real boy. Tom Hanks stars as Geppetto, the wood carver who builds and treats Pinocchio (Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) as if he were his own son. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Jiminy Cricket, who serves as Pinocchio’s guide as well as his “conscience”; Academy Award® nominee Cynthia Erivo is the Blue Fairy; Keegan-Michael Key is “Honest” John; Academy Award® nominee Lorraine Bracco is Sofia the Seagull, a new character, and Luke Evans is The Coachman. Also in the cast are Kyanne Lamaya as Fabiana and Jaquita Ta’Le as her marionette Sabina, Giuseppe Battiston as Stromboli and Lewin Lloyd as Lampwick.

Pinocchio comes to Disney+ on Sept. 8.
