Beastars Season 2 Episode 4 Recap - Entangled

Ambush

Legoshi remembers a conversation with Tem, comparing his fur’s consistency to a sheep’s. They aren’t that close in reality, but he really wants to find out who the culprit is.

Suddenly, a huge carnivore attacks him from behind and ties him up. As Legoshi takes a beating, he regrets thinking he isn’t close with Tem. In reality, the relationship between carnivores and herbivores can be complicated, but he intends to repay Tem. Legoshi manages to bite the enemy, trying to collect information with his remaining senses.

The perpetrator kicks him off and runs away in panic. Legoshi is left bleeding in the rain, regretting his refusal of Haru’s kiss.

Jack gets a phone call from Legoshi and realizes he’s in trouble. The dog rushes to find his friend tied up and bleeding. He helps him up and loosens up his binds. Legoshi thinks he can’t go back to school for a while and instructs Jack to make an excuse for him. Jack urges him to go to the doctor, but Legoshi fears that going back could get him killed.

He can’t tell him where he’s headed, only that he’ll be back someday. Jack worries that he’s lying, seeing how he’s been distant lately. The dog has high hopes for Legoshi to find happiness., but now, his newly found strength seems to only do the opposite. Legoshi looks at his crying friend through bloody eyes, seeing how far apart they’ve actually grown. He then jumps over the fence and runs away.

Back to the Black Market

Legoshi goes to the Black Market to find the only adult he can rely on for advice. He asks the shopkeeper for some bamboo shoots. Mr. Gohin then appears behind him to buy some food, noting how Legoshi looks the same despite his many injuries.

He asks Gohin to become his mentor, but the panda refuses and leaves. Legoshi follows him to his office to discuss what’s happened at school. Gohin nurses his wounds and notes how he’s always a magnet for trouble. Legoshi is sure that the murderer is the one who attacked him, and while he still’s around, the school is in danger.

He asks Gohin to teach him to fight, but the panda refuses again, stating he’s a physician. Legoshi‘s going in and out of the office to train would surely attract the Shishigumi’s attention. Gohin berates him for his plan to skip school for a while. Having lost all of his options, Gohin restrains him and gives him an initiation.

Elsewhere, a herbivore stripper, Cosmo, prepares to go on stage to an audience of carnivores. She’s there to satiate their patron‘s sensual and carnivorous desires. She starts performing inside a cage until her rival stripper sabotages the controls and opens the cage.

The Boss

A tiger lunges at Cosmo to eat her, but Rouis calls in his underlings to discipline the unruly patron. When Cosmo sees him, she yells how he hates herbivores who only come to pity her and tells him to go home.

Yet soon, she learns that Rouis is the Shishigumi boss. The gangsters go backstage to reprimand the stripper who put her life in danger. Rouis tells Cosmo that the Black Market is his home and introduces himself.

The Shishigumi eat steak to celebrate their newly acquired contracts, stating how Rouis has steered them into order. Rouis keeps up appearances but later vomits out the meat in his room.

Ibuki enters and asks if he’s alright, noticing how he’s growing thin. He sees through the facade and offers him some salad. Rouis’ pride takes a hit, but he’s interrupted when a surprise visitor comes by.

Our Thoughts

I love all the bold and dark directions this show is willing to go. 3.8/5.
