Woody Harrelson has to Coach a Special Basketball Team in Trailer for Champions

Woody Harrelson had found himself starring in a non-conventional comedy with this year’s Triangle of Sadness, but next year he’s going to be starring in a comedy film from one of the most celebrated comedy directors of the early ‘00s.

Check out this new trailer for Champions from director Bobby Farrelly:

Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

Woody Harrelson stars in the hilarious and heartwarming story of a former minor-league basketball coach who, after a series of missteps, is ordered by the court to manage a team of players with intellectual disabilities. He soon realizes that despite his doubts, together, this team can go further than they ever imagined.

Just in case you’ve forgotten the movies that the Farrelly Brothers have directed, they were responsible for comedy classics like Dumb and Dumber, There’s Something about Mary, and Shallow Hal. They’ve since slowed down their releases over the past few years, but I’m ready for any kind of comeback.

Admittedly, with audiences getting access to all kinds of movies now, the newer comedies have always felt like they needed to provide some kind of edge like with Booksmart or Good Boys. With Champions though, it seems like we’re going to be in for a feel-good sports movie that we haven’t really seen in a while. I’m sure it will also provide an interesting look at the lives of people with Down Syndrome and the people that take care of them.

Catch Champions when it hits cinemas on March 24, 2023.
