'Ciao Papa': Watch Lyric Video of Original Song from Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio

Disney’s Pinocchio admittedly has some bops with I Got No Strings and When You Wish Upon a Star, but Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio for Netflix also has its own heartfelt song that should tug at the audience’s heartstrings.

Just in, Netflix has released an official lyric video for the track Ciao Papa. Watch this:

Besides the lyrics, the song actually gives us a lot of clips in the movie, and kind of highlights the relationship between Geppetto and Pinocchio. Though the original Disney movie kind of focuses more on the adventures that Pinocchio goes on, it looks like this movie from del Toro could also be giving us a look at what Geppetto could be up to the entire time that Pinocchio ends up joining the circus.

Going back to the song though, I think it’s a very sweet song, and I can imagine it being at the very center of the film—much like Remember Me in Pixar’s Coco. I’ll admit, I wasn’t expecting any musical numbers with this version since they wanted to make it separate from the Disney version, but it honestly works.

Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro reinvents the classic tale of the wooden marionette who is magically brought to life in order to mend the heart of a grieving woodcarver named Geppetto. This whimsical, stop-motion film directed by Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson follows the mischievous and disobedient adventures of Pinocchio in his pursuit of a place in the world.

Pinocchio is currently screening in select theaters and will hit Netflix on Dec. 9.
