Beyoncé Confirmed to Star as Nala in Live-Action 'The Lion King' Movie

After being in talks for the role of Nala in the upcoming “The Lion King” remake directed by Jon Favreau, Pop Diva Beyoncé is finally confirmed to star as Simba’s better half. Back in March, it was reported that Favreau’s first choice to play Nala was the pop star, and it’s been widely anticipated since then. Now that it’s confirmed, “The Lion King” and Beyoncé fans are in a frenzy.
In an official Facebook post, the singer confirmed her role as Nala, along with the entire slate of actors to star in the upcoming remake of one of Disney’s beloved classics. It was also previously reported that Donald Glover will star as Simba, James Earl Jones to reprise his role as Mufasa and Chiwetel Ejiofor as the film’s main villain, Scar. As for the quirky duo of Timon and Pumbaa, we already know that Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen will both star respectively.

But what’s even more interesting here is the additional cast for “The Lion King” live-action remake. Alfre Woodard stars as Sarabi, Mufasa’s Queen and Simba’s mother. We’ve also got Keegan-Michael Key as Kamari and Florence Kasumba as Shenzi, one of the three Hyenas on Scar’s team. It’s definitely an exciting project to hear, especially with Favreau at the helm. Last year’s remake of “The Jungle Book” enjoyed huge critical and commercial success, and so it’s no denying that “The Lion King” could very well have the same fate too.
The screenplay for “The Lion King” live-action remake was written by Jeff Nathanson, adapted from the original 1994 script written by Irene Mecchi, Jonathan Roberts, and Linda Woolverton. Jeffrey Silver, Karen Gilchrist and Favreau himself are the film’s producers with Tom Peitzman and Thomas Schumacher executive producing. John Bartnicki will also co-produce.
“The Lion King” is set for a July 19, 2019 release.
