Dan Harmon Finally Updates on Community Movie

Dan Harmon may have found success with Rick and Morty, but fans have been asking about his other series Community for a while, and its promised feature film. Though it seems like it would never happen, Harmon has finally given fans an update.

Talking to The Wrap, Harmon confirms that the movie is currently in negotiations, and a story outline has already been made. He says, “There’s a story—who knows if we’ll end up sticking to it, but it was something we had to compile in order to take it out and court various venues. And now negotiations happen.”

Though negotiations are underway, Harmon does say that time has become the issue when it comes to the development of the film. He says, “…as far as the industry is concerned, this is a matter of when and not if, for sure.”

We don’t know what a Community movie could look like yet, but seeing Harmon’s penchant for meta-humor and parody, I think we should expect the movie to have bits and pieces of what made the series so great. Who knows, if they can get Avengers director Joe and Anthony Russo to come aboard, I’m sure some studios will be eager to get in on the project.

While cast members have left the show during its final season, I’m hoping that the movie manages to bring everyone together—even Chevy Chase. We don’t know if a high-concept movie would be good for general audiences, but I think we should expect something closer to El Camino rather than Serenity.

At least, that’s my guess.

No release date has been set for the Community movie.
