Dreams Come Alive in Trailer for Netflix’s The Sandman

After years in development Hell, an adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman is finally coming to Netflix. The series is set to premiere this August, and we have a new trailer thanks to SDCC 2022.

Watch this:

Here’s the official description:

There is another world that waits for all of us when we close our eyes and sleep — a place called the Dreaming, where The Sandman, Master of Dreams (Tom Sturridge), gives shape to all of our deepest fears and fantasies. But when Dream is unexpectedly captured and held prisoner for a century, his absence sets off a series of events that will change both the dreaming and waking worlds forever. To restore order, Dream must journey across different worlds and timelines to mend the mistakes he’s made during his vast existence, revisiting old friends and foes, and meeting new entities — both cosmic and human — along the way.

With the original comics’ penchant for trippy visuals and cosmic entities, it certainly looks like the series is going to lean in on that concept; what with Dream visiting characters like Lucifer and venturing off into other worlds.

In the comics, Dream is only one of seven ‘Endless’ siblings, and the show promises to introduce the rest of the Endless with characters like Death, Desire, and Despair. Other Endless that haven’t been announced for the show include Destruction, Delirium, and Destiny.

With the kid-friendly tone of Good Omens, I suspect The Sandman to have that same kind of whimsy, but I’m hoping we get something closer to American Gods (the first season, to be specific).

Catch The Sandman when it premieres on Netflix on Aug. 5.
