Mad Max: Furiosa Set Photos Reveal Anya Taylor-Joy in Costume

Charlize Theron won’t be coming back to reprise the part of Furiosa for the Mad Max spinoff, but the character will be taken over by Anya Taylor-Joy. The movie is currently in production, and we have our first look at Taylor-Joy in her Furiosa get-up.

While she may not be bald like Furiosa was in Fury Road, she does have a green glove over her hand, which means she could already be handicapped when we meet her in the film. Then again, she could be shooting something later in the movie, and we get to watch how Furiosa loses her hand (what are the odds it’s because of Chris Hemsworth’s character?).

Though it would have been great to see more of Max’s journey, he was admittedly one of the more bland elements of Fury Road. One of the main stars of that show was no doubt Theron’s Furiosa, so it would make complete sense that they would center a movie around her.

While Max won’t be around, the real appeal of those movies has always been the Wasteland, and I’m pretty sure we’ll get to see more of it with Furiosa. With Fury Road admittedly having a very self-contained story, it would be great if we get to see more of the world, along with the different tribes and groups that have formed after the apocalypse.

Furiosa is set to hit theaters on May 24, 2024.
