FIXED: Genndy Tartakovsky Directing His First R-Rated Animated Film

Though animator Genndy Tartakovsky is best known for his family-friendly works like Hotel Transylvania, he’s been known to release some more adult-oriented material like Adult Swim’s Primal. Now the legendary animator is set to work on his first R-rated film.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Tartakovsky has confirmed that he’s already started work on a film called Fixed, which will be an R-rated movie. The story is said to follow a dog who is going to be neutered, and he has 24 hours to decide what he’s going to do.

Tartakovsky said about the film:

“That one I’ve been trying to sell it for 12 years. It’s gonna look really good, and it’s got heart, but then it’s got the super raunch. I’ve never really seen anything like it.”

If anything, the premise sounds like a cross between The Secret Life of Pets as well as the more raunchy Sausage Party. We know that Tartakovsky has a real thing for action scenes, but by the sound of the premise, it may seem that Fixed is more of a comedy film.

With there still being a stigma that animated movies are for kids, I’m curious as to what Fixed has to say that it got the green light. Though it sounds like it will get a release in theaters, I do have a suspicion that this could go straight to streaming like Turning Red or The Sea Beast.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

Fixed has no ‘fixed’ release date yet, but you can catch Tartakovsky’s other work, Primal which is expected to premiere its second season of Adult Swim on July 21.
