Guillermo del Toro Allegedly Developing Frankenstein Movie Starring Oscar Isaac

After a successful retelling of a classic story with Netflix’s Pinocchio, it seems that Guillermo del Toro is gearing up to adapt another classic pop-culture icon through his own cinematic lens.

According to What’s On Netflix, del Toro is said to be working on a Frankenstein movie, and the project is eyeing Oscar Isaac (Moon Knight, Star Wars) to be the star.

Admittedly, nothing official has been confirmed, but del Toro did say to the Variety Awards Podcast:

“Well, I’m working on a monster movie; I cannot say the title because it may change, and I could end up making something else. But right now, I’m writing and designing. And we have for the last couple of years. Hopefully, it’ll be next, but anything can happen.”

WON also confirms that Netflix had optioned Frankenstein back in March from Elizabeth S. Wrightson, and knowing del Toro’s penchant for all things horror, a Frankenstein movie seems completely in his wheelhouse.

Though Frankenstein had been adapted to no end before, this version should turn some heads considering that it’s del Toro that’s developing the project. After Shape of Water, it’s interesting to see how del Toro will tackle another classic movie monster.

Of course, it’s also worth mentioning that Isaac is a tremendous talent. Sure he’s the typical leading man in his Star Wars movies, but projects like Ex Machina and Moon Knight can prove Isaac has the range to bring interesting characters to life onscreen.

A Frankenstein movie from del Toro has not been officially announced. In the meantime, you can catch del Toro’s Pinocchio now streaming on Netflix.
