Henry Cavill to Star and Executive-Produce Warhammer 40K Adaptation

Henry Cavill had left Netflix’s The Witcher to work on more Superman films, but after last week, he found himself having to hang the cape. It was certainly a huge disappointment for Cavill and his supporters, but it seems that the old Man of Steel has found his new gig.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cavill is set to star and executive-produce a Warhammer 40,000 adaptation for Amazon Prime Video, based on the hit miniature game. So far, no director or showrunner has been attached to the franchise, but creative director Andy Smillie of Games Workshop (or GAW) had this to say about the adaptation of their popular UP:

“It’s great news and we’re absolutely thrilled; we’re working with a fantastic triumvirate in Henry, Vertigo, and Amazon. Henry’s well-known love of Warhammer 40,000—and his passion as a world-builder and storyteller—will serve us all well in the coming years. Finally, Warhammer will make it to the screen as the fans have hoped, and as they deserve. Exciting times!”

We have no further specifics for the project, but we do know that Amazon is aiming for Warhammer to be a movie and TV play.

If you follow Henry Cavill outside of his Superman/Geralt roles, you’ll know that he has just as much passion for the material as his fans, and he’s very open about his nerdy hobbies like gaming and painting miniatures.

It was Cavill’s love for the source material that had a lot of fans backing him up, so you can imagine everyone’s devastation when it was said that the DCEU was going to be rebooted after Cavill just made his Superman return in Black Adam.

Hopefully Warhammer will be much nicer to Cavill, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
