It’s Ali Wong vs Steven Yeun in Trailer for Beef

Ali Wong and Steven Yeun are both at opposite ends of the entertainment spectrum with one being a highly successful comedian, and the other being a more serious, dramatic actor. Now Netflix is bringing both together with their upcoming series Beef which will have Wong and Yeun locked in a ridiculous feud.

Check this out:

THR describes the story:

In the dark comedy series, Amy (Wong) is a wife and mother who seems to have it all, while Danny (Yeun) is a struggling contractor with downward fortunes, but both are miserable — as cued by the ironic lyrics of The Smashing Pumpkins’ “Today” that plays over the trailer. The two meet acrimoniously in a parking lot and choose to escalate their encounter into an ongoing feud that includes gunplay, attempted arson and defacement of property via urination.

Yeun and Wong re actually attached to the series as producers, and the showrunner will be Lee Sung Jin, who has worked in series like Undone and Dave. This is also a reunion of sorts for Lee and Wong, since Lee has also worked on the animated Tuca & Bertie which also starred Wong.

I’ll admit, the premise actually feels like it could be a Seth Rogen-fueled comedy, but with A24 attached to the production, it does seem that Beef is going the more arts route when it comes to execution and story.

Either way, Wong and Yeun are fantastic artists, and I can’t wait to watch the two collaborate with this show.

Beef premieres on Netflix on April 6.
