It’s Jason Statham vs Giant Sharks in Trailer for Meg 2: The Trench
Published 7 months ago
Audiences watched Jason Statham take on a ridiculously huge shark in The Meg back in 2018, and half a decade later, he’s going to be coming back with Meg 2: The Trench. WB Pictures has just dropped a new trailer, and it feels like the franchise is staring some kind of war with Jurassic World.
Here’s the official description:
Get ready for the ultimate adrenaline rush this summer in “Meg 2: The Trench,” a literally larger-than-life thrill ride that supersizes the 2018 blockbuster and takes the action to higher heights and even greater depths with multiple massive Megs and so much more!
Dive into uncharted waters with Jason Statham and global action icon Wu Jing as they lead a daring research team on an exploratory dive into the deepest depths of the ocean. Their voyage spirals into chaos when a malevolent mining operation threatens their mission and forces them into a high-stakes battle for survival. Pitted against colossal Megs and relentless environmental plunderers, our heroes must outrun, outsmart, and outswim their merciless predators in a pulse-pounding race against time. Immerse yourself in the most electrifying cinematic experience of the year with “Meg 2: The Trench” – where the depths of the ocean are matched only by the heights of sheer, unstoppable excitement!
While giant monster films like Godzilla vs. Kong and Jurassic World tend to get pretty serious with their marketing, it seems that Meg 2 knows that it’s supposed to be a silly monster movie, with all the death and destruction happening while Barracuda by Heart plays over it.
Though The Meg was a critical bomb, the film still managed to gross half a billion in the box office, so it would make sense that the studio would want to make a sequel. You think it would manage to make Jurassic World Dominion numbers though?
Meg 2: The Trench is set to hit theaters on Aug. 4.
