James Cameron’s Avatar 2 Gets an Official Title

It’s been years since James Cameron’s Avatar sequels had been announced, and after such a long wait, fans at Cinemacon were able to get a look at the footage from the movie. Though it will be a while before it’s released to general audiences, we do have the official title of the next Pandora-set blockbuster.

According to THR, the next Avatar film has officially been titled Avatar: The Way of Water. The trailer is set to release exclusively alongside Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and will go online a week later. Producer Jon Landau explained, “We need to make sure [audiences] have an experience they can’t get anywhere else, and that needs to be exclusively in theaters.”

With the first movie having a heavy emphasis on the Sky and flying, the sequel will now take us to the waters of Pandora—which will have its own sights to behold, as well as some giant sci-fi creatures as well.

Here’s the synopsis:

Jake Sully and Ney’tiri have formed a family and are doing everything to stay together. However, they must leave their home and explore the regions of Pandora. When an ancient threat resurfaces, Jake must fight a difficult war against the humans.

Though a lot of people barely remember everything about Avatar, the movie was still a huge success at the box office—earning the title of highest-earning movie of all time. With Avengers: Endgame eventually beating Avatar’s numbers, it looks like Cameron is looking to reclaim his box office crown with these sequels.

Catch Avatar: The Way of Water when it comes out Dec. 16.
