Margot Robbie is the Picture of a Successful Woman in First Image for Barbie

Margot Robbie may not be the best feminist icon as Harley Quinn, but she is going to be playing probably the most famous (albeit recently criticized) female figure—Barbie.
WB Pictures has just dropped the first photo of Robbie as Barbie, and she looks like she is the happiest, most successful woman every little girl wants to be:

We don’t know what the story of Barbie is going to be yet, but with director Greta Gerwig at the helm, we could expect a film that has some very heavy feminist themes. Gerwig managed to shine with Lady Bird back in 2017, and she was also able to make her own critique of the source material of Little Women when she adapted the film back in 2019.
Besides Robbie, the film has also managed to nab quite the star-studded cast. Ryan Gosling, Kate McKinnon, Alexandra Shipp, America Ferrera, and Simu Liu have all been announced for the cast. They even managed to get Will Ferrell who is said to be running some kind of toy company that may or may not be Mattel.
With Barbie being a product for kids, I have a feeling that the film could have some kind of meta-approach like The LEGO Movie did. While Barbie is considered the ideal, working woman on the surface, she has also been criticized for promoting an unrealistic and unhealthy beauty standard for decades. Surely Gerwig has something to say about that.
Barbie starring Margot Robbie is set to hit theaters on July 21, 2023.
