Manifest Season 3 Episode 7 Recap - Precious Cargo

This episode brings another Manifest back-to-back two-parter! Following the events of the last episode, Michaela and the other 828 passengers receive the same calling that led them to none other than Eureka, making them wonder which side of the fence Ben is truly on. Meanwhile, in Eureka, a link is established between the vanished and the returning.

The body of Pete, Kory, and Jace is preserved inside a machine, the same as Mrs. Taylor.

Dr. Gupta is mad at Ben. She says it‘s his fault why the three men died — but neither is an option. She wants to know what happened to the three meth heads. Ben explains that after Jace dies, there was a shadow from Jace’s body, causing the death of Kory and Pete.

Saanvi tells Dr. Gupta he will prep Ben for his testing the next day. Dr. Gupta informs Dr. Saanvi that they will no longer be a part of Eureka or the project following the final few tests on Ben. Ben attempts to persuade her, but she refuses to listen.

Michaela and Drea talk about how the meth heads case closed. When Jared receives a text and says, “Welcome to my world,” Michaela suddenly hears a calling. Everything starts to get blurred. She goes to the window and raises the window blinds. She sees an enormous bloom of dark clouds in the sky. Drea asks her what she‘s seeing; she can‘t see anything herself. Then she realizes it is a calling — Michaela is the only one who can see it.

Michaela steps out of the car. She follows the dark cloud and sees the other 828ers also following it.

At Eureka, Saanvi found the three meth heads have the same mark DNA as them. Ben figures out aluminum oxide is the same chemical found on his hands from the tailfin.

Michaela and the other Flight 828 passengers are still following the dark clouds. They end up outside of Eureka. They see Ben walking outside, getting in his car.

Eagan also followed the dark cloud. He stands close to Michaela, watching Ben. “That‘s Ben Stone. He‘s the one always reaching out to us about the callings and the Death Dates,” Eagan shares with the rest. He‘s suspicious of what appears to be a secret government outpost and wonders what he’s up to. Michaela remains silent.

Olive tries to help Angelina cope with what happened to Pete at the Stone residence. Angelina tells Olive she will help them pack, but she will leave the house after.

Cal asks how much longer they will stay in the cabin. Grace tells him it will be faster the minute he starts helping.

Michaela asks Ben what he was doing in Eureka. Michaela thinks the calling is about him because all passengers got a calling except him. Ben admits he is getting his baselines measured for a full battery test as a guinea pig. Ben feels the science they can uncover may be able to rescue them all.

Cal asks Angelina why she is not going with them. Cal tries to persuade her by saying, “All things work together for good.” Angelina knows the verse, but she thinks it has failed her like the calling.

Michaela’s hands light up while driving, just like Ben‘s. Ben is ready to return home when he notices a group of 828 passengers following Eagan; they all have glowing hands. Eagan asks what he’s been up to. One of the guys with Eagan drugs Ben. Ben gets knocked out.

Michaela rushes inside to tell Ben about her hands. She is just in time because the oven is ringing for overheating. She shuts it off hurriedly. She becomes anxious when she notices Ben’s phone on the counter. “Where the hell are you, Ben?” Michaela asks herself.

Ben wakes up in an unfamiliar room. He tries to open the door, but it is locked. He goes to the stairs, but a mad dog goes through the doors. Eagan comes down and sarcastically says, “Another calling? Another Ben and Eagan team-up?”

Eagan tells Ben he spotted him come out of the building at Eureka and wants to know the truth. Ben says the NSA is investigating Flight 828. Eagan becomes enraged, thinking that the NSA is the enemy who must be defeated. Ben reveals everything they’ve gathered points to the possibility that Flight 828 passengers were resurrected. “What‘s going in that room is dangerous. They have to be stopped,” Eagan tells Ben as he exits the room.

At Eureka, Troy asks Saanvi if it‘s true that she‘s out. She says Vance is giving her 24 hours, so she is hoarding information from Eureka. Saanvi tells Troy aluminum oxide isn‘t the only element she found on the tailfin: iron, titanium, chromium, and vanadium. All the elements combined forms sapphire. Saanvi found sapphire on all who returned.

Meanwhile, Ben looks for a way out of the room. He finds a smart refrigerator. He hastily sends a message but is cut off as Eagan arrives with two 828 passengers. They bind Ben. Eagan believes the NSA and others would treat them the same way Salem treated women wrongfully accused of witchcraft in 1692.

Michaela goes through Eagan‘s files in the NYPD database, believing he is responsible for Ben’s abduction. She gets an email and instantly recognizes Ben is giving her a hint where to find him.

Cal grows disturbed as Grace takes up her brother’s belongings to donate. Cal accuses Grace of attempting to delete her brother in the same way she tried to erase him when he went gone five and a half years ago. Grace apologizes and says she did it not to erase him. Seeing his things reminded her of him, and she wasn‘t strong enough to keep them.

Michaela and Drea follow the email address to a community of similar houses. They notice Eagan is “hiding in plain sight” by living in a show house.

Over at Eureka, Saanvi interrupts a meeting with Vance, Dr. Gupta, and other scientists to discuss the finding of the DNA abnormality. Dr. Gupta praises Saanvi but requests she depart.

Ben tries to bargain with Eagan, arguing they need an inside man at Eureka. Ben claims all he wants to do is keep himself and everyone he knows alive until the world’s end. They suddenly hear a commotion upstairs. Ben tells Eagan to untie him; he knows it‘s Michaela upstairs and she‘s not alone. “Down on your knees now!” Michaela and Drea enter the room with their guns pointing at Eagan.

Ben stops them, telling them he‘s not pressing charges. But Eagan has other warrants, so Drea still cuffs him and takes him to the precinct.

Olive tries to persuade Angelina to stay at the cabin. “You‘re not a burden. You‘re important to this family,” Olive tells her. Eden begins to cry; Angelina appears to know just how to handle her. She gently gets Eden from Olive; Eden stops crying. “How did you just do that?” Olive gets amazed.

Eagan makes bail and is released not long after he is arrested. He sees Ben waiting for him outside; Ben bailed him out. Ben asks him to keep his followers in check and reminds Eagan he will go to any length to save his family and everyone he cares about from the Death Date.

Jared and Sarah meet for coffee. They confess their emotions to each other.

Dr. Gupta invites Saanvi to a room. She says Saanvi‘s discovery of the DNA abnormality is a breakthrough at Eureka. Dr. Gupta gets excited, knowing they may have discovered something greater than Einstein and Copernicus. Saanvi observes as Dr. Gupta opens a container with Vatican insignia. “Unpack your things. We have work to do,” she tells Saanvi.

Ben gazes toward Eureka. He sees the massive black cloud.

Our Thoughts

Whatever is in the package is a recipe for disaster for everyone. There’s something holy about the little case, which is made of the same materials as the plane and passengers on Flight 828. Based on the size, it must be something tiny, such as jewelry or ceramics. Perhaps a sacred relic, such as the Holy Grail? We’re not sure how it relates to the group, but it’s coated with sapphires, precisely like the passengers.

Only time will tell why Eureka possesses it and what this implies for the gang, but the inverted funnel cloud over Eureka’s cargo dock is terrifying. It has the potential to be End of Days Bad. Eagan may have used coercion, but it doesn’t mean he’s wrong to be concerned. Whatever is within the case should have been left alone. I’m confident we’ll find out in the next episode.
