Robert Pattinson: There is No Bad Batman Movie

March is almost here, and fans are waiting to pass judgement on whether Robert Pattinson will be a “good” or “bad” Batman, but the interesting thing is, Pattinson doesn’t believe there was ever a “bad” version of the Caped Crusader.

Talking to Total Film (via Games Radar), Pattinson explains how he thinks all versions of the Dark Knight are valid. He says:

“[Batman would have] had a lot of movies made about it, and none of them are bad movies. People kind of shit on some of them, but they’re not actually bad. They all kind of completely achieve what they set out to achieve, and they’re all really interesting, according to their time and place. I don’t know. I just had a weird instinct about it. But I’ve always loved the character.”

While pop culture does dictate that the Joel Schumacher Batman films were terrible, there is a growing appreciation for what the director was trying to do; and that was to bring evoke the campiness and fun of the original 60s Batman that Adam West made popular. It may not be as dark as Tim Burton, but it’s every bit as valid.

Though it is a huge bummer that Ben Affleck didn’t get to play his Dark Knight to completion, I am excited to see what Matt Reeves and Pattinson are going to be bringing to the big screen. We’ve had a sophisticated, aged Bruce Wayne before. Now let’s see him at the brink of desperation, working in the dirt trying to fight crime in Gotham.

Catch The Batman when it premieres in theaters on March 4.
