'Solo: A Star Wars Story' is the Official Title of the Han Solo Spin-off Movie

It’s finally official. After all the endless amounts of behind-the-scenes photos shared on Twitter, director Ron Howard has finally revealed the official title of the upcoming Han Solo movie. “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” will hit theaters next year and will feature Alden Ehrenreich’s take on a young Han and how he came to be the scruffy-looking nerf herder we’ve all loved since then.
In a video posted on Twitter, Howard also announced that production has wrapped, and will now go into the editing room. Check out the video below:

‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’: Is it a good title?

Taking a minimalist approach to a “Star Wars” movie title is something started by last year’s “Rogue One.” And since every spin-off movie set in the Star Wars universe will now be called “A Star Wars Story,” calling Han Solo’s movie as simply “Solo” seems to be a good fit considering high recall (but then again who needs the high recall for a Star Wars film?)
One can easily say that “Solo: A Star Wars Story” is a dull title where not much thought was put into, but it’s a title that works well with the essence of the story. It’s something that can help ramp up Lucasfilm’s marketing and also one that genuinely represents the film. After all, the movie is about Han Solo.

On the other hand, keeping the title in its most literal form seems to have worked for the Star Wars franchise over the years. This December, “The Last Jedi” will come out and is definitely a direct reference to Luke. “Rogue One” also refers to Jyn Erso’s (Felicity Jones) renegade group of rebels who are tasked to acquire the Death Star plans. “The Force Awakens” refers to Rey’s awakening of the Force (duh.)
Over the past few months, Howard has been dropping clues in the form of photos and videos. This is something that gives that rush of excitement, especially seeing how well production has been going since Howard took over the reins of the film. With the title being made official, it’s only a matter of time before we get to see more updates on the upcoming Han Solo film.
“Solo: A Star Wars Story” is slated for a May 25, 2018 release.
