The 80s Meets the Omen in Trailer for My Best Friend’s Exorcism

Netflix has been banking on the 80s nostalgia with Stranger Things, but Amazon Prime Video looks to be doing the same thing with their upcoming comedy/horror film.

Here’s a look at My Best Friend’s Exorcism:

The year is 1988. High school sophomores Abby and Gretchen have been best friends since fourth grade. But after an evening of skinny-dipping goes disastrously wrong, Gretchen begins to act…different. She’s moody. She’s irritable. And bizarre incidents keep happening whenever she’s nearby. Abby’s investigation leads her to some startling discoveries-and by the time their story reaches its terrifying conclusion, the fate of Abby and Gretchen will be determined by a single question: Is their friendship powerful enough to beat the devil?

While there are some properties that are just full-on horror, it seems like MBFE is going to have some comedic elements to balance out the creepy tone of the movie. I guess it also helps that the show has brought in Christopher Lowell, who plays Bash in another 80s-centric property filled with women—GLOW.

My Best Friend’s Exorcism is actually based on a book from Grady Hendrix which came out back in 2016. While the book was considered pretty niche for some audiences, there is still some fun to be had when it comes to the melding of the horror/80s coming-of-age genre.

My Best Friend’s Exorcism premieres on Amazon Prime Video on Sept. 30—right before the Halloween season.
