WandaVision Director Allegedly Helming Fantastic Four

Spider-Man director Jon Watts was expected to direct the upcoming Fantastic Four movie, but he has since dropped out, leaving Marvel to find his replacement.

What’s interesting is, The Direct is claiming that WandaVision director Matt Shakman has already signed on to direct Fantastic Four, and it will only be a matter of time before his involvement is announced. Then again, nothing so far has been confirmed, so we should just take this as a rumor. Some speculate that the announce of Shakman’s hiring will be made during this year’s D23 Expo on September 10.

Since Fantastic Four is all about being ‘Marvel’s First Family’, we should expect the MCU to really lean in on that concept. Jon Watts did do a great job when it came to rebooting Peter Parker for Spider-Man: Homecoming, so I was curious on what he had in mind for Fantastic Four. Hopefully some of his input will be taken into consideration by the new director.

While we did get to see John Krasinski play the part of Reed Richards in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it’s very possible that someone else could take on the part for the main MCU timeline. There have been a lot of pitches from Rahul Kohli to Zachary Quinto, but so far Krasinski has always been at the top of the list.

So far we don’t have any official updates, but hopefully we get something next month.

Fantastic Four is set for a release on Nov. 8, 2024.
