13 Reasons Why Season 2 To Have A Different Narrator

“13 Reasons Why” is one of the most nerve-wracking and emotionally triggering TV shows out there. It’s an adaptation of the YA Novel of the same name by Jay Asher, and proved to be a huge win for Netflix. The book has no sequel, but the streaming service was quick to order a second season following the questions raised during the first season.

Known for its take on rape, bullying and suicide, the show adopted a narrator format as the show progressed through all the 13 tapes that Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford) left and focused on the events that led to the present day’s dilemma.

With the sequel coming along, it has been revealed that the second season of “13 Reasons Why” will be doing the same narrator format, albeit a different voice but still centered around Hannah Baker’s death.

Same Narrative, Different Voice For 13 Reasons Why 2

“13 Reasons Why” showrunner Brian Yorkey and Katherine Langford recently spoke at a Netflix For Your Consideration panel about what the second season’s format would be, and which path the show will be taking after it picks up from Hannah’s suicide.

Filming is set to commence next week, and Yorkey was careful about giving away too much on the plot of “13 Reasons Why” season 2. However, he did reveal some important details:

“What I can tell you is that certainly one question I get a lot is, ‘How can there be a Season 2 when the story’s over?’ My response is, ‘What story is over?”Well, Hannah’s story is over.’ Well, Hannah told her version of events, but there are at least 12 kids who have another version of those events that we actually haven’t really heard from yet. So I think there’s quite a bit more of Hannah’s story to tell.”

“I think Season 2 will see us look at a lot of the events that we think we know how they went down and maybe learn they’re more complicated than first we thought, and that Hannah herself is even more complicated than we saw in Season 1.”

Yorkey also emphasized that he doesn’t think Hannah lied about everything that happened, but rather, she “reclaimed” the narrative that was taken from her. With alot of people involved in the story, it’s possible that new stories will be revealed given how the 13 members (yes, that includes Clay) have their own issues that needed to be dealt with as well.

“13 Reasons Why” season 2 will also be focusing on the healing process after the events of season 1. It will be dealing with Olivia Baker and Clay’s recovery after such a traumatic event.

Hannah Baker will indeed be back for season 2, and we will be seeing more scenes about her life that wasn’t shown in season 1. There are a lot of questions that need to be answered, and hopefully we will be given the closure and clarity that we all need.
