69th Primetime Emmy Awards Winners List

The 69th Emmy Awards recently honored primetime television series in various categories, including programming, acting, directing, and writing. Stephen Colbert kicked off the event at Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles with a hilarious show. Westworld (HBO) and Saturday Night Live (NBC) led the pack with 22 nominations apiece. Stranger Things (Netflix) followed close behind with 19 nominations.

Streaming Platforms Win Big

This year proved to be the year of online streaming platforms. Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon all boasted over 120 nominations between them, proving themselves to be serious contenders. Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale also came out on top as the winner of the Outstanding Drama Series category – the first web series to take the award.

Other notable winners include Riz Ahmed, whose performance in The Night Of beat out favorite Robert DeNiro in the Wizard of Lies Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie category. Donald Glover and Lena Waithe also made history to be the first African-Americans to win in their respective categories. But at the end of the night, Saturday Night Live and Veep stood out as the big winners with a handful of awards apiece.
