After Life Season 1 Episode 2 Recap

Tony starts his day watching Lisa’s video guide again and ends up in the bathtub wanting to cut his wrist and kill himself. The dog comes to ask for food and stops him.

Postman Pat comes again to bring the mail. He appears to have read it because he knows the contents when Tony asks him about it.

Tony visits Lisa’s grave and meets Anne, a widow talking to his dead husband’s grave. Anne tells him that her husband Stan never disagreed with her once, not in 48 years. Tony tells her he didn’t get that long with his wife.

Tony heads to the shelter and tells his dad about meeting Anne. He reminds him not to tell Lisa about meeting another woman, having forgotten that Lis is already dead.

Tony talks to his therapist about being guilty of resenting having to visit his dad every day even when he knows he’ll feel bad if he doesn’t. He says that when he does see him, he feels terrible right after because the visits are depressing now that his dad is completely gone. Meanwhile, his therapist can’t be bothered because he’s having a feud with a student online.

Tony asks Julian, the paper delivery guy, to buy some heroin after bumping into him just outside their office. He agrees to bring the drug to him by 7 p.m.

Tony goes in and asks Lenny if he’s ready to go while making fun of the skin on the back of his neck. Matt calls him out and asks if he can still babysit George later that day. Tony agrees but tells him he’s got to pick him up before 7 p.m. because he needs to do something by that time.

For a story, Lenny and Tony go to see a boy who can play two recorders using his nostrils. After the interview, Lenny asks the boy’s mom to go out with him, and she agrees. Tony tells him it’s embarrassing and unprofessional.

Despite Tony telling her not to, Kath still shares with him and Sandy her dreams and the five people she’d like to invite to a fantasy dinner party. Matt comes and reminds Tony to train Sandy to write features. Memories of Lisa and him trying out a Tiktok challenge come back to him while he’s trying to work. He tries to talk to Sandy about what she likes to write. Sandy tells him he does not have to babysit her and that she likes peace and quiet because she lives in a house that’s quite full of life, literally. Sandy apologizes for sharing having many people at her home when Tony’s sad. He tells her he was married for 25 years, and now that it has ended, it is not Sandy’s problem. This makes Sandy cry.

Lenny walks in, and Tony tries to lighten up the mood by asking Sandy to watch him eat until he grows conscious. Sandy does, and when Lenny asks, Tony tells him that he looks like a snail eating a cabbage.

At home, Tony watches another footage of him making fun of Lisa when Matt comes to drop George off. Tony and George head to the cafe to get some snacks. He orders two servings for George because the server won’t let him order a kiddie meal for himself, and he annoys the waitress by eating the food for George anyway.

Matt comes to pick George up as Julian arrives with the drugs. Tony lets him in, and he gets high. Julian takes the opportunity to steal some cash from his wallet while Tony gets so high that he imagines lying on Lisa’s lap.

Our Thoughts

Having to turn to drugs to fend off loneliness is never a good thing, and it’s sad that Tony has come to that. We hope that this is a one-time thing because he still has many people around him who care for him. Now that he’s beginning to open up to Sandy, maybe he’ll lighten up soon. Lastly, that waitress from the cafe is so annoying; she’s the epitome of lousy customer service.
