After Life Season 2 Episode 5 Recap

Tony watches another video of Lisa, taken during one of her chemo sessions. He gets up and takes Brandy for a walk and imagines that Lisa is in the river, swimming.

Matt gives Paul a tour of the office and introduces him to the rest of the team.

For a feature story, Tony and Lenny interview a man who has been posting his mail into a dog waste bin for over a year. He explains that he cannot see clearly, so even though the box reads “Dog Waste,” he still posted his mail there. He thought his sister was not writing her back when it was his letters that had not reached her. Also, he got in trouble with the gas and electricity people because of unpaid bills, since he also puts the checks in the bin. Tony asks him why he did not take the smell as a clue, but he says that he thought the smell was him. He reveals that he has not taken his hygiene seriously because there is nobody to be hygienic for. He also says that he has no self-esteem, which is why he never had a relationship — he always thinks that if he did, the woman will always find somebody better than him and leave.

Lenny goes back to the office, and Tony visits his dad. He thinks that something is off with his dad, so he asks Emma if he’s doing alright. Emma tells him that he’s been up and down but that he was perky that morning. Tony asks her if she’d like to come to the revue that night, but she tells him she’s on duty. He helps his dad lie down.

Matt tells his therapist that Jill will come with him to the revue and shares how he turned down one chick at work, coming on a bit strong.

Tony goes to the graveyard and, of course, sees Anne there. Tony tells her that he should pay her for their chats because talking to her is better than talking to his therapist. She says that his friendship is more important to her than money. Tony asks her if she’s lonely, and she tells him that there is only one person she misses. He asks her to go to the revue. She’s reluctant to go at first, but Tony convinces her in the end.

Tony arrives at the office just as Paul is leaving. Tony asks him to go to the revue as well. June comes and gets James so they can practice for the revue. Lenny goes with them when he hears they’re getting food. Kath leaves to get ready for the revue and boasts about having a date. Sandy tells Tony that everyone’s got a date. Tony tells her not to despair because she’ll get addicted to it as he is. He tells Sandy that when she finds a fellow, she should dance with him when he asks. He says he wishes he danced with Lisa every time she asked because there were times when he was shy or just lazy. This brings him to tears yet again.

Kath arrives and proudly introduces her date to Jill, Matt, Sandy, and Lenny at the revue. They all go in. Pat arrives with Roxy, and they get greeted by Brian, who recognizes them as the postman and the prossie. He says he could not have afforded her.

At the shelter, Emma realizes that Ray has died.

Anne shows up in the hall and finds herself a seat. Tony comes in with Paul, whom he motions to sit beside Anne. However, before he could take the seat, a woman occupied it, so he ended up sitting a chair away from Anne.

The revue starts, and Ken gives a song number. June and James do a song and dance number. Brian does stand-up comedy that’s not even remotely funny, not to mention that it is explicit, given that there are children in the audience, including George. Rebecca recites a wonderful poem until James farts, and she swears on stage. She walks out, and Ken tells James to dance and give them a show.

Emma texts Tony and asks him to call her. Tony goes out of the hall to call her, and she tells him that his father has died. Tony nods and tells her that he’ll come over. He arrives at the shelter and asks Emma for help with the arrangements. He sits and tells Emma how a good a father he has been to him. He says he never wanted to disappoint his dad, even as a child. Emma tells Tony that some people in the shelter get visitors once a week, but she had never known a man who visits his dad every day, without fail, even when he was in pain himself. Emma tells him she tried to give Tony a hard time to get his attention. Tony tells her that it didn’t work because she already had his attention from when he laid eyes on her. They sit together for a while.

Tony gets home, and Brandy welcomes him by giving him her toy. He watches yet another video of Lisa while drinking. Lisa bugs him while he plays cards with Ray, and Brandy licks Ray’s face as he laughs in the video.

Our Thoughts

Why did we cry at the thought that Tony had lost the only family he had left? He isn’t even over Lisa, and now his dad is gone, so we can’t help but feel sorry for him. The pain must be too hard to bear. It’s a good thing he has the people from the office, Roxy, Pat, and Anne. No one is indeed an island, especially when you are Tony. Of course, he’s got Emma, too, although we don’t know where they stand right now. On the bright side, we were not wrong when we said that Paul and Anne could become an item. Let’s see!
