'Arrowverse' 2017 Crossover Event Title and Artwork Revealed

With the “Arrowverse” shows on The CW officially making their return this fall, this year’s crossover event is also widely anticipated by fans. Last year, we saw the heroes of “Supergirl,” “The Flash,” “Arrow,” and “Legends of Tomorrow” go against alien invaders during the first crossover event titled “Invasion!” Now we’re leaning that production for this year’s “Arrowverse” crossover is officially underway. Not only that, the title and artwork for the network’s biggest TV event have been revealed as well.
Last year’s crossover didn’t only consist of the “Arrowverse,” but a couple of characters also made their appearances in the network’s DC superhero shows. “The Flash” and “Supergirl” featured a musical crossover and was the second major event that premiered last year. It showcased Grant Gustin (Barry Allen/The Flash) and Melissa Benoist’s (Kara Danvers/Supergirl) impressive singing and dancing prowess with the crossover’s heartwarming narrative.

To set this year’s “Arrowverse” crossover apart, Warner Bros. and The CW commissioned legendary comic book artist Phil Jimenez to design the comic book cover for the event. The artwork echoes the crossovers that happened to DC’s past comic book storylines, particularly “Crisis On Infinite Earths.” Executive producers Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg also expressed their excitement over the artwork, saying that their “ten-year-old selves are in heaven.”

“We conceived this year’s crossover to be evocative of the annual Justice League/Justice Society crossovers we grew up with and looked forward to as kids. Phil was the perfect choice to bring the comic book cover iteration of this idea to life,” the executive producers said in a statement. ” You can count on one hand the number of artists who could compellingly represent so many characters in a single image. Phil is one of them. And his design invokes the cover of Justice League #207, which was the 20th Annual JLA/JSA crossover. Our ten-year-old selves are in heaven.”
Artist Jimenez, who’s also a huge comic book fan, shared how it felt for him to be able to create an iconic artwork for the show. “Some of the first DC Comics I ever read were those insane crossovers with a dozen characters from alternate earths and dimensions — the kind of stuff I later became known for,” Jimenez said. “So when CW asked me to do an homage cover inspired by those amazing team up covers, I couldn’t resist, the chance to draw all of The CW’s DC Super-Heroes in one crazy action sequence was insanely fun and exciting. And Romulo Fajardo’s colors brought everything to life!”
The “Arrowverse” crossover will span two nights (as compared to last year’s four-episode long event), beginning Monday, November 27th and ending on Tuesday, November 28th. It will feature all the heroes clashing with their Earth-X counterparts during Barry Allen and Iris West’s wedding.
