Attack On Titan Season 1 Episode 6 Recap - The World the Girl Saw: The Struggle for Trost, Part 2

Connie finds Armin and tries to wake him from his shock. Ymir, from Connie’s squad, tells him what’s apparent. They’ve been wiped out with him left alone. Christa tells them to stop bickering, as everyone loses friends left and right. Armin apologizes and returns to the rearguard while Connie and his squad move forward.

Suddenly, the reality of this world dawns on Armin, where the strong defeat the weak. Now that his friend is gone, the one that always protected him from his frailty, he feels guilt and regret. Down below, he finds Hanna, who’s trying to resuscitate Franz, but it’s not working. He tells her to stop, as Franz is dead. He can’t take it anymore.

The evacuation stops as one of the merchants’ caravans clogs the evacuation gates. Suddenly, an abnormal titan advances on the crowd, causing panic.

The defending elites struggle to chase it down, but Mikasa arrives and slashes through the creature’s weak point. The titan falls in front of the crowd, so the merchant tells her to command the crowd and help him. Mikasa angrily approaches and threatens to kill the merchant, who then agrees to move back his cart. The rest of the civilians thank Mikasa for her help, and she salutes them.

Mikasa gets reminded of how she ended up in her situation. In the year 844, she lived with her parents on an idyllic mountaintop. One day, Dr. Jaeger visits them with Eren, but no one answers. He opens the door to find Mikasa’s parents dead, but she’s nowhere to be found. Dr. Jaeger calls the police and leaves Eren at the foot of the mountain to wait.

Her Reality

Mikasa has been kidnapped by a group of thugs who want to sell her for being an “Oriental.” She’s the last clan descendant who sought refuge inside the walls. Her mother would have been more valuable, as she’s a true-blood oriental, but the thugs killed her during the scuffle. Mikasa’s life suddenly changes as she watches her parents get murdered.

Suddenly, the door opens to their hideout. It’s Eren, claiming to have been lost in the woods and sought refuge in their cabin to escape the rain. The two thugs drive him out, but Eren stabs the man and baits the other into a trap, killing both of them for what they’d done to her.

Eren introduces himself as he frees Mikasa, but as it turns out, there’s another thug. He moves in to kill Eren, but Mikasa comes in and stabs him after Eren urges her to fight. She realizes that taking a life has been present in nature all around them, and they all live in a cruel world. At that moment, something inside her triggered the instinct to fight, and she gripped the knife and dragged it to the man’s heart.

The Scarf

When they arrive, the Military police can’t believe what they’d done to those kidnappers. Eren justifies his actions as culling of dangerous animals, and Dr. Jaeger scolds him for casually endangering his life, but that is all he can do to save her.

Mikasa asks Dr. Jaeger how she can go home from now on, so Eren pulls off his scarf and gives it to her to shun the cold. Dr. Jaeger decides to adopt her after what she’d been through. Eren takes her hand and invites him back home.

After killing more titans, Mikasa is ordered to retreat, but she refuses and goes to assist the vanguard. She feels empowered to do anything as long as Eren’s there.]

Our Thoughts

The grim darkness of this world and its familiar Shounen leanings make this a compelling show. Rating: 3.8/5.
