Beastars Season 1 Episode 6 Recap - Blurred Vision - Dream or Reality?

Attack

There’s news of an attack on a gazelle perpetrated by a group of carnivores. Suspects are still on the run.

Later, Legoshi sees a female carnivore bullied by other herbivores. He doesn’t know what to say, so he tells them he’s her brother. They don’t buy it, but the girl plays along.

The girl thanks him, crying. She doesn’t want to be harassed every time there’s news about carnivores. Legoshi tells her it’s okay to be frustrated; it only means she’s strong.

Her name is Juno, a new drama club member. She recognizes him, and since they’re the same species, she asks to be friends.

City Visit

The art club president announces that members will visit the city hall tomorrow afternoon. Rouis warns the carnivores they should not visit the Black Market.

Legoshi asks the eagle Aoba if he’s been there. He says they eventually will when they get older.

The four carnivores enjoy their time outside. During lunch, they talk about girls. Bill asks when Legoshi will decide to lose his virginity. The tiger claims he can smell it on him from miles away, referring to Juno. Legoshi can’t believe Bill is acting so casually around him.

The boys are lost on their way home. Legoshi asks one of the local Wildebeests, but he offers his fingers for money instead. The wolf gulps as the street opens up to reveal they’ve wandered into the Black Market.

We flash back to Hal and Legoshi’s time together, where she tells him they’ll soon be good friends.

Fingers

Back to the present, Bill asks the Wildebeest if he’s really selling his finger. He tells everyone they can each have a finger and split the bill, but Legoshi slaps him. Aoba takes the tiger’s side, saying they’re not at school anymore. Carnivores at the Black Market all enjoy their meat — it’s the reason it’s so peaceful everywhere else.

The wolf is enraged; he runs away from the group. The smells of meat bombard him as he runs through the market. He remembers Hal again, panting as he escapes.

Legoshi is mad; he can’t stop drooling over Hal. He passes out at a back alleyway. A dark figure finds him.

He is gagged and tied up in a dark room when he awakes. A grizzled old panda meets him and checks his vitals. Legoshi cries, but the panda punches him for being aggressive.

Black Market

The panda says he watches the Black Market. He interrogates the wolf while taking pictures. The panda says if a carnivore passes out at the Black Market, that means he’s guilty of eating one. Legoshi admits to almost doing it, and he’ll tell Hal the truth one day.

The panda is perplexed he’s still talking to her. Every carnivore has desires — that’s why the Black Market exists. He shows Legoshi all the suspects who ate herbivores. Some have eaten themselves after craving the taste of flesh. He adds Legoshi’s photo to the wall.

Pain

The panda says he’s a psychotherapist. He unties the wolf and tells him he’s there to help. Legoshi says he doesn’t need it. He’s mad, claiming to be friends with her, but the panda won’t buy it. He says the friendship is only a front for his deeper desires — hunting and romantic instincts should not combine. He urges him to call it off before it’s too late.

Legoshi leaves, saying he’s not sure if it’s love. The panda hands him a raunchy magazine of rabbits to check his real feelings.

The wolf rushes home, troubled. Aoba meets him at the station. He also couldn’t eat the man’s finger. Legoshi cries, saying all he wants is to stand on his own feet.

Our Thoughts

The first half of the episode seems rushed and iffy, but it makes up for it with a cool ending. That panda seems to know his stuff as well. It’s a 3.5/5.
