Beastars Season 2 Episode 1 Recap - A Teen's Never-Ending Alarm

Ghosts

Legoshi and his canid friends spend some time watching the night sky. Jack talks about finding their guardian stars, stars that were fabled to appear during the day they were born. The others are disappointed that the scheduled celestial shower isn’t showing up.

Jack hears a mysterious sound in the hallways while bringing his telescope upstairs. He sees something coming from the room where Tem had died, so he runs in fear. There are rumors that a six-eyed monster is hiding in that room. A classmate overhears their discussion and tells them it’s Tem’s ghost. Many other students have reported hearing footsteps near that lecture room in the middle of the night. Some even connect it to Rouis’ disappearance, as he’s known to frequent those halls.

Legoshi texts Haru; they meet at her designated spot. She tells him not to mind the rumors as that’s how students usually are. Haru has always been alone, but nothing has happened to her except for the incident with Legoshi. Legosi apologizes and asks her why they’re always meeting in hidden locations.

She explains that meetings between smaller species like her tend to spread bigger rumors. Legoshi worries she’s being bullied too much and suggests she should act bolder. But Haru thinks it can’t be helped due to their situation. She wants to keep the status quo.

Later, Legoshi worries that their relationship hasn’t progressed beyond texts and meetups, even after his sincere confession.

Complications

The drama club starts preparing for their next project, but Rouis’ disappearance has put their plans in limbo. The festival was the last moment Legoshi and Rouis met, the day they had their scuffle.

Miguno and Durham check the lecture room at midnight to check if the rumors are true. After finding everything in order, they take a picture. But as soon as the camera flashes, a set of eyes appears and spooks them. They run back to their dorm room in a panic.

The canids later propose to the publishing club about printing the ghost story, something the club leader vehemently opposes. Durham suspects it mustn’t be a ghost if they can hear footsteps on the ceiling and the halls.

Outside, while investigating, Legoshi stumbles into Rouis. The deer seems calm even though he’s been gone for two months.

Rouis goes to the drama club to announce his resignation, causing a massive blow to the club. He leaves Legoshi with a cryptic message, saying he’ll be fighting on a different stage and leaves.

Before night falls, the canids install a camera on top of the lecture room entrance for their investigation.

Next Beastar

Back in the club room, Legoshi ponders on Rouis’ parting thoughts. Later, he asks Juno if she knows something about Rouis’ situation. The female wolf makes a fuss for not clarifying his answer after she has confessed her feelings. She pleads with him for an outright rejection instead.

Legoshi fumbles his apology and invites her to enjoy the wolf room together. The wolves welcome Juno and thank her for her speech during the festival, which improved their reputation with the herbivores. She has a good shot at becoming Beastar.

In the office, the teachers discuss the Council of Leaders’ upcoming meeting to select the next Beastar of Cherryton school. They go over their best prospects and see Rouis and Juno at the top.

After their investigation, the canids discover that a first-year hamster has been posing as a ghost to prank the students. Still, Legoshi keeps hearing eerie sounds through the walls, so he tries to confront its source.

Our Thoughts

Beastars has always been good at expressing society’s complications, which sets things up to a good start. 3.5/5.
