Beastars Season 2 Episode 5 Recap - Call it Like it is

Bonds

Juno visits Rouis, and they take a stroll through the Black Market. Rouis asks if Legoshi and Haru were able to make it back to school during the incident. Juno reports they are fine, although Legoshi was wounded. She was able to track down his location from his words at the festival. He talked about being seen as a school hero but unable to save those he loves.

Juno tries to get him to go back to school. Rouis says he no longer has a place there and jokes about Juno looking like she’s heartbroken. He yearns to find true strength within the Shishigumi, who are also fighting their own battles.

Free, a  Shishigumi, worries about their boss going off on his own. He laughs and fantasizes about dining on Rouis after he restores Shishigumi to its original strength. Ibuki threatens and reminds him that Rouis is their boss.

Rouis dances with Juno underneath the streetlights. She worries if their dance is one of the deer’s many fabrications. Still, she believes there can be an understanding between carnivores and herbivores. Juno leaves him, saying he’s a fool who doesn’t see that he can choose his destiny and break free from the bonds of society.

New Cut

Back in the dorms, the canids worry that Legoshi is missing. Jack thinks he’s not coming back, but the door opens with Legoshi apologizing before entering the shower. All of them are stunned at his new short hairstyle, including the drama club.

Legoshi explains that a lot has happened to him. It was Mr. Gohin who purposefully shaved his fur as a disguise. The drama club relieves him from his duties under the pretense that he’s helping his sick grandpa. Gohin made him realize that he can defend his friends better while he’s in the drama club. In the locker rooms, Juno expresses how she loves Legoshi’s new style.

That night, Legoshi goes back to Gohin’s office to train. The panda locks him in a room with a large hunk of meat, hoping to suppress his inner urges to make him strong. After a grueling session, he still needs to return to school in the morning. Gohin reminds him it‘s his choice and suggests feeding him meat to make him stronger, but Legoshi’s conviction is so firm that he can’t do such a thing.

Playboy

Back at the club, Pina asks Legoshi why he’s looking so pale and weak, implying he may have a mental illness. The wolf dismisses him as he’s tasked to show him around the storeroom and backstage props. Suddenly, Legoshi gets a whiff of female scent. He notices a red mark on Pina’s face, something he got for being unfaithful.

When Pina asks if he has a girlfriend, Legoshi walks away with Haru running in his mind. Pina teases him about being such a prude and asks how he can stand only having one girl. The sheep doesn’t think it’s wrong as long as he’s enjoying it, even suggesting that Legosi is free to eat him. Pina turns off the light to drive the point home.

Legoshi gets angry, so he ultimately dismisses Pina and storms off to the cafeteria.

Rouis shows a notice of withdrawal from school to his father and asks for his signature. He’s determined to end their fake relationship and refuses to be a cog in his business. His father reminds him how much he paid for his freedom. Rouis reveals his involvement with the Shishigumi while pointing a gun at him.

Our Thoughts

The training arc is fun, and more suspicious players have arrived to make the plot more interesting. 3.5/5.
