Bridgerton Season 2 Episode 7 Recap - Harmony

The latest Whistledown states that no one entirely knows why Edwina walked away from the altar but reminds everyone that the queen has placed Edwina in such a position. This enrages the queen, so she asks for her carriage at once.

Violet tells her children that they should all go to the promenade so that the entire ton will see that they are still united as a family despite what has happened, thinking that doing so would limit the damage to their reputation. Eloise tells her mother that she will be late because she has to go shopping for new gloves. However, as she makes her way out of their house, she is met by the queen.

Lady Danbury and the Sharmas also decide to promenade. They, of course, get unapproving stares from the members of the ton. Lady Danbury reminds them that if anyone should ask, it is a mutual understanding and a private matter that caused their wedding to fail. The Bridgertons suffer the same fate – people do not want to look at them, let alone talk to them. Only Lady Featherington has the audacity to rub the Bridgertons’ current misfortune off their noses by saying how things have turned out well for them with Marina being married to Philip, Philippa to Mr. Finch, and with Prudence being engaged to Lord Featherington.

At the queen’s carriage, Eloise uncomfortably sits across the queen. The queen asks her what she did at the printer’s shop during Anthony’s wedding. The queen tells her that she knows that Eloise is Lady Whistledown. Eloise tries to tell her otherwise, but the queen points out that Eloise is rarely mentioned in the scandal sheet and that the author also has strong opinions about society – like her. The queen tells her that Lady Whistledown can be the queen’s ally rather than her rival. She threatens to reveal Eloise as Lady Whistledown and says their family will suffer even more. She gives Eloise three days to consider the queen’s proposal as an ally.

Following an uneventful promenade, the Sharmas and Lady Danbury meet with Violet and Anthony to discuss their next move. They decide to throw a ball together to show the ton that whatever happened to them did not cause any strife between the families. Lady Danbury reminds Anthony and Kate that they should not be seen together or even share a passing look throughout the ball because doing so will jeopardize their entire plan.

Eloise tells Pen that the queen thinks she is Lady Whistledown because one of her guards saw her visiting Theo. Eloise tells her that she should warn him, but Pen tells her that she should stay away from the printer’s shop and wait for Whistledown to print her next issue and hope that she can use that to prove the queen wrong.

Pen goes to Madame Delacroix for advice. Madam Delacroix is distraught upon learning that the queen is now involved. Penelope assures her that she will leave her name out of it. Madam Delacroix tells Pen that she can turn herself in to take Eloise’s place, but Pen tells her that the queen will not believe her because she looks like a friend trying to rescue a friend. Madam Delacroix tells Pen that one thing a lady would never do is wear something that makes her ugly. She suggests that Pen write something that Eloise would never write about herself. Pen tells her she cannot do it because it might ruin Eloise.

To ensure their ball will be a success, Lady Danbury and Violet decide to show themselves with Anthony, Edwina, and Kate at the gallery so they may appear as a picture of unity before sending out the invitations. As they roam around, Anthony takes the opportunity to apologize to Lady Mary. Lady Mary tells him that what happened isn’t entirely his fault because she has let Kate take over their family’s affairs when she should be the one to do it.

Mr. Mondrich appears disappointed that his club is nearly empty and that his business is not doing well. Jack comes and orders a brandy. Mr. Mondrich is not interested in talking to Jack, so he tries to walk away. However, Jack calls his attention and tells him that he knows about a substantial wager that the late Lord Featherington has made in one of his fights. Threatened, Mr. Mondrich says that he won’t defend himself against baseless accusations, but Jack tells him that he won’t ask him to do so. He says that he will not ask Mr. Mondrich any questions so long as he does not ask him questions too. He says that doing so will harm both their businesses.

Eloise comes to the shop and meets with Theo, who is clearly not pleased to see her there. He says that people from the palace have been asking about him and that he nearly lost his job. He says she is ridiculous to believe that coming there was a good idea. He tells her to go before she can cause him any more trouble.

Anthony tries to talk to Kate about the kiss they shared, but Kate tells him that they did not kiss – he is her sister’s intended, and there is no world they can ever kiss.

Pen tries to write the next Whistledown but finds herself lost for words. She decides to leave her room, and to her surprise, she hears Colin talking to Jack about investing in his mine. He asks Pen to show him out as he tells her that she has always been loyal and constant. After Colin leaves, Portia sees them talking, so she immediately reminds Jack that he is not to involve the Bridgertons in their business.

Violet tells her children that Daphne won’t be able to come to their ball, so they must work together to impress their guests. Pen comes to visit, and Eloise tells her that she will confess to the queen. She says that she plans to publish a counterfeit paper so that the queen will believe her and so she can become the queen’s ally to save her family from the scandal they are in. Pen tells her not to do it, but Eloise tells her that she has decided. She thanks Pen for being a loyal friend despite the circumstances.

The Bridgerton ball begins, but there is no one else besides the Bridgertons themselves and the Sharmas. Seeing this, Anthony declares that there shall be dancing. He asks Hyacinth and Gregory to come down, and all of them dance to lively country music. Still panting from dancing, Lady Danbury and Violet contemplates why their plan has failed. Lady Danbury thought it a good idea to ask their servants, who seemed concerned about something.

Mrs. Wilson presents the latest Whistledown to them, and they discover that Lady Whistledown has written that Eloise has been seen associating unchaperoned with political radicals. The queen gets confused and realizes she got the wrong person upon reading this. Lady Featherington rejoices at this news, making Colin a viable investor. Eloise runs up to her room, crying. Pen breaks and burns her quill as she mourns for having betrayed her best friend. Kate tries to win Edwina back, but she fails every time.

Kate and Anthony find themselves alone in the outdoor garden. They end up making love after having yet another argument about how they must stop associating with each other for the sake of both their families. The next day, Anthony wakes up alone while Kate relives what happened between them in her mind.

Anthony gets her mother’s ring and goes to see Kate. However, after a few moments of waiting, the servants tell him that Kate is not in her room and one of the horses is missing.

Kate goes for her routine morning ride despite the inclement weather. Anthony follows her but fails to catch up with her. He watches as she falls down her horse.

Our Thoughts

Well, that escalated quickly – from a kiss to making love to a tragedy? Oh! This is the very definition of unthinkable! We hope Kate recovers from that fall because we want to see them end up together. Of course, we also wish Edwina and Kate to return to being close again.

We certainly understand that writing something about Eloise is necessary for the queen to stop thinking that she is Lady Whistledown. Still, we can only imagine how heartbreaking it is for Pen to do that to her best friend. She must have been devastated, but like her, we think it is the best move considering that the queen has started threatening Eloise and the Bridgerton name. Eloise’s friendship with Theo gets jeopardized, so we are scared of when Eloise will learn that Lady Whistledown is Pen. Let’s hope she does not find out soon!
