Castlevania Season 4 Episode 3 Recap - Walk Away

Beyond Nature

Flyeyes plays with the doll while another Night creature works on the burial ground. The doll will be used to mark the grave. Isaac instructed them to give each some semblance of identification. As Flyeyes makes his way back he sees all of his peers working on rebuilding and restoring the city. He goes to Isaac, who’s enjoying a bowl of berries, and asks him about it.

Night creatures are supposed to be instruments of death and destruction. He doesn’t understand why he’s doing chores for the dead. Isaac reasons that he doesn’t want disease and insects to spread. Everyone here was a victim. Flyeyes argues that rebuilding is against their nature.

Isaac offers him a berry, and the monster reluctantly obliges. After having one, vague memories start to pop up in his mind. Isaac sees the potential for people to repopulate the city after they leave. He wants to use his tools toward that end. He envisions a hell that’s empty, where all of the tormented souls are back in the real world to do his bidding. Perhaps they can do more than their intended purpose of murder and destruction. Flyeyes sees that there’s still a hint of vengeance in his master, but he is indeed changing.

Isaan returns to his library and ponders if he is indeed taking too much time in rebuilding. He asks the old wizard’s statue if he’s doing the right thing. He feels more empowered to act now that he’s not merely a tool in somebody else’s arsenal. Suddenly the mirror reaches out with Varney at the other end. The vampire praises Isaacs’s great work and explains his plan of collecting ancient spells and lore in order to find a way to resurrect Dracula. Varney wants to restart the work that Dracula left unfinished. Isaac seems not as keen and wants to work on his own, so he cuts off the vampire.

Campaign

Striga and Morana discuss the matters of their battle while in camp. Morana complains about the weariness and stress that it brings. It’s starting to feel wrong for her. She explains that they’re already on top of the food chain. There should be a swifter way to finish the campaign. She fears that their battle will go on forever and ever as their sister’s passion for taking over seems endless. Suddenly an arrow exposes their ceiling and lets sunlight in. Striga dons her armor and insists that Morana should hide in a trunk.

Striga goes out wearing sunlight protection garb and slaughters through waves of farmers with pitchforks and swords. She calls out the rest of the forces to don their protective gear and fight back. Stiga’s brutality and efficiency in battle spell their certain victory.

Back at the tent, Morana complains about the smell. The brutality of fighting mere farmers dawns on Striga. Keeping things running in an empire may indeed spell that they’ll have to fight for as long as they live. Doubt seeps in if they really want to continue. Suddenly Camilla reaches them through a mirror to report that Hector is finally ready to make night creatures for their army.

Hell in Targoviste

Trevor and Sypha explore the city and see how downtrodden and desperate the people are. The dead line the streets and vampires and Night creatures are still lurking all over with their plans still unknown. The two think they’ve been brought here by fate. Trevor inspects the magic stone he found, which surprisingly fits in the base of the dagger from the armory. Zamfir approaches them for recruitment, but the two still want to deliberate if that’s indeed the right choice for them.

Our Thoughts

I like how well-rounded and reasonable the evil antagonists are in the series. Loving it so far. 4/5
