Castlevania Season 4 Episode 9 Recap - The Endings

Chaos at the Castle

The battle at Dracula’s castle continues as the vampire forces push the humans deeper within. Soon the humans and Night creatures are scattered across the rooms and hallways. Trevor and Sypha appear just in time to help Alucard against their foes.

Alucard explains the situation, adding that there’s a madman upstairs. They celebrate their reunion by obliterating the foes in front of them, regaining control of the entryway in the process. Sypha impales two stone golems with an icicle but a fire-breathing abomination remains. Trevor manages to cut its head and Sypha defends all three of them as the demon explodes in death.

They split up to kill off all the scattered night creatures and defend the remaining Danesti villagers.

Finally, Dragan enters with a group of witches as they carry Saint Germain’s Rebis to the summoning area. Varney breaks open the barrier to let them in. They lay down the body inside the circle and Varney hands Saint Germain the final forging phrases provided by Hector.

The vampire changes forms and reveals herself to be the alchemist, who then reveals himself to be Death in the flesh. Death comes for revenge on those who killed Dracula. Dracula was the one that fed with what he wanted. Now Death wants Dracula back.

Saint Germain calls him insane, explaining he will be a Rebis. But it’s all the better for Death. The Rebis will have boundless rage, which will feed Death and enable him to be the strongest creature on earth. Death urges Germain to finish the ritual, or he’ll never see his lover again. Having no other choice, Germain obliges.

The Corridor opens to hell, revealing Dracula and Lisa Tepes.

Death awaits

The surviving villagers reconvene in the main hall. Alucard and his friends move on to find Germain. Outside of Alucard’s childhood room, Dragan and the remaining Demons fight them. This group is stronger, with its own unique powers, magic, and fighting styles.

Sypha, Alucard, and Trevor fight on the backfoot at first, but with teamwork, they manage to kill everyone except Dragan. The vampire sighs as he’s forced to fight the three of them. Trevor manages to break his armor and cut off one arm. Enraged, he sprouts his wings in a mad dash toward them. Alucard meets him with his sword, and with Sypha’s lightning, his body obliterates.

Death blocks their entry as they try to move through the door. Trevor recognizes Death for what it is, an evolved vampire that feeds on the moment of death. Finally, Saint Germain’s manages to pull Dracula and Lisa’s souls into the Rebis. The body quivers in pain and horror as the two souls fuse into a nightmare.

Death marvels at its beauty, relishing Dracula’s impending insanity. Finally, Trevor manages to break through Death’s barrier. Regretting what he’s done, Germain redirects the portal to the Rebis so Belmont can do his thing. Trevor cuts off the Rebis in two, and the raging soul explodes through the upper castle.

Slaying Death

In the ensuing chaos, Trevor’s dagger plunges into Saint Germain. He catches a glimpse of his lover through the closing portal before perishing.

Death yells in anger at his failed plan and sucks in the remaining death magic from the spell. Trevor finds himself separated from Sypha and Alucard. He tells Sypha he loves her and reminds her that Trefor is a terrible name.

Trevor then introduces himself to Death before trading blows with the massive entity. Although he is no match for Death, he manages to trick it into lowering its guard and pummels it with successive fiery blows from the morningstar. He combines the magical items he took from Targoviste and plunges them into Death’s overgrown skull. Death explodes, taking Trevor with him.

Our Thoughts

I wasn’t sold with the reveal of Death at first but Belmont’s explanation and that glorious ending make up for it. 4/5
