Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 1 Episode 8 Recap - The Smell of Enchanting Blood

Grave Distraction

The woman screams as the newly turned demon attacks her. Tanjiro tackles it to the ground and asks the woman to tie up his wounds. He can’t believe how quickly Muzan’s powers activate.

Muzan escapes while Tanjiro is busy. He yells at Muzan and tells him he’ll chase him until the depths of hell.

Meanwhile, the police come in to take Tanjiro away, and he begs them to let him do his job. The cops are about to arrest him when someone in the crowd casts a Blood Demon Spell that distracts everyone.

A woman and a boy move forward to meet him. She is also a demon, but she is also bent on eradicating Muzan Kibutsuji. She was touched by Tanjiro’s determination to help the infected demon.

True Evil

Meanwhile, Muzan takes his family home via automobile. He heads into a dark alleyway filled with ruffians and drunks. One of them tries to mug him, but Muzan doesn’t hesitate to kill him and his friends. He turns the last one–a woman into a demon. One injection of blood into their cells will do the trick, but he forcefully overdosed her leading to her death.

Two of Muzan’s minions appear before him after that, bowing. He commands them to kill the boy with the Hanafuda earrings, and Muzan remembers a memory of someone who wore the same thing.

Back in town, the udon vendor scolds Tanjiro for not paying for the food earlier. He tells Nezuko to let go of her bamboo mouthpiece to eat, but Tanjiro interrupts him and downs two bowls swiftly.

Worthy Cause

They were about to leave when they found one of the boys who helped them earlier. The boy insults Nezuko for being a hideous demon. Tanjiro can’t believe it and gets mad.

They follow the boy while Tanjiro gives him a piece of his mind. They reach a dead-end alleyway that’s a secret passage to a mansion. The boy warns them not to be rude to his master once they come in.

They enter into what looks like a doctor’s office. The wounded woman from before is on the sickbed while his demon husband is in the dungeons.

The woman introduces himself as Tamayo. She’s a demon who freed herself from Muzan’s curse and altered her body to work differently. They’ve survived this long without killing people, and they take blood from people under the guise of transfusion. The other boy Yushiro needs even less blood as she turns him into a demon.

She is the only other person to turn another this way. She tells him that her goal is to turn those badly wounded or dying into a demon to prolong their lives. Tanjiro asks her how they can turn Nezuko back.

Outside, Muzan’s two minions are tracking the movements of Tanjiro, leading them to the secret entrance of the mansion. They laugh and ponder on what they’ll do to their enemy’s blood.

New Hope

Tamayo explains that there’s a way to turn someone back into a human, but it still needs a lot of research. She leaves a request for him to collect blood from Nezuko and other demons who have a thick amount of Muzan’s blood. Nezuko’s case is unusual, so they’ll have to check it out further. Her body acts differently from any other demon.

She admits the second favor is much more dangerous, as those with strong concentrations of Muzan’s blood will be much more powerful.

Tanjiro agrees; he’ll do anything to find an antidote. That way, he can help both his sister and Nezuko.

Suddenly a weaponized ball crashes into the house. The demons have attacked.

Our Thoughts:

Interesting new characters that give some semblance of hope for our heroes. We’re also shown how powerful and ruthless our big bad is. 4/5.
