Disney+ 'The Mighty Ducks' Reboot To Star Lauren Graham And Brady Noon

Well, this is definitely exciting. The Mighty Ducks are finally coming to the small screen. News spread about a reboot in early 2018 with no network attached to the project. But, now, Disney has picked up the project and issued a 10-episode straight to series order. Disney has also tapped Gilmore Girls alumna Lauren Graham and Good Boys star Brady Noon to star in the reboot.

Graham will be starring as Alex while Noon will be starring as her son Evan.  Based on the 90s franchise, Disney will be bringing an updated twist to the original story. This time around, The Mighty Ducks are the villains.

In the new The Mighty Ducks which is set in Minnesota, the Mighty Ducks have evolved from scrappy underdogs to an ultra-competitive, powerhouse youth hockey team. After 12-year-old Evan (Noon) is unceremoniously cut from the Ducks, he and his mom Alex (Graham) set out to build their own ragtag team of misfits to challenge the cutthroat, win-at-all-costs culture of competitive youth sports.

The series is produced by ABC Signature Studios. Steve Brill, the creator, writer, and executive producer of the original franchise is returning as co-creator and executive producer of the series. Graham is also a co-executive producer on the project.  The King of Queens producers Cathy Yuspa and Josh Goldsmith are on board as co-creators and showrunners. Michael Spiller and James Griffiths will serve as executive producers with the latter also directing.

The first film of The Mighty Ducks was released in 1992. It starred Emilio Estevez as Gordon Bombay, an attorney turned youth league hockey team coach after a drunk-driving arrest. The film went on to become a box office hit which led to two sequels D2: The Mighty Ducks and D3: The Mighty Ducks. According to Deadline, Estevez is in talks to reprise his role as Bombay. However, the talks are still ongoing. The Mighty Ducks reboot is set to begin production this month and is slated for release later this year on Disney+.

In addition to Gilmore Girls, Graham also starred in NBC’s Parenthood. She was also in Disney Junior animated series Vampirina and she has recently appeared in the HBO comedy Curb Your Enthusiasm. Graham is currently starring in NBC’s new drama Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist. Noon, on the other hand, got his big break alongside his twin brother Conner in Broadwalk Empire. He’ll be in the comedy Marry Me next opposite Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson.
