Misfits Unite: The 'Doom Patrol' Assembles in New Extended Trailer

The next superhero team to debut in the DC Universe will hit hard and fast. An extended trailer for the comic book streaming service platform’s Doom Patrol has just dropped, teasing us with a grim (but at times funny) team up that follow in the steps of Titans.

Of course, our first introduction to the team was in the “Doom Patrol” episode of Titans where we saw the origins of Ryan Potter’s Gar Logan/Beast Boy. In what appeared to be a pre-taste of what’s to come, the episode proved to be one of the most emotionally gripping narratives of Titans. The trailer, however, gives us more than the emotions. It’s raw and exciting, with each superhero backstory shown in passing.

We’ve got racecar driver Cliff Steele/Robotman (Brendan Fraser), who suffers from a bout of depression after his career slowly deteriorates in front of him. Larry Trainor/Negative Man (Matt Bomer) is an air force pilot who suffers from an accident that exposes him to radiation. And not only that, but his family life also hangs in the balance as he slowly loses control of himself, with Larry eventually having an affair with a fellow soldier. Rita Farr/Elasti-Woman (April Bowlby) was a movie star in the early ’50s but is also involved in an accident on set that caused her skin to “melt.” Two new additions are also introduced—Ray Fisher/Cyborg (Joivan Wade) and Crazy Jane (Diane Guerrero).

The misfit heroes are taken under mad scientist Niles Caulder/The Chief’s (Timothy Dalton) wing, and together they live in secret, shunned by society and ashamed of what they have become. Little do they know that the world will need them eventually, with the looming threat of Mr. Nobody (Alan Tudyk) threatening to rip their city into pieces.

It’s an overall exciting trailer, what with all the negative reactions surrounding the casting decision and its slight change of origin, particularly that of Cyborg’s.

Check out the show’s logline below:

DOOM PATROL reimagines one of DC’s most beloved groups of Super-Heroes: Robotman aka Cliff Steele (BRENDAN FRASER), Negative Man aka Larry Trainor (MATT BOMER), Elasti-Woman aka Rita Farr (APRIL BOWLBY) and Crazy Jane (DIANE GUERRERO), led by modern-day mad scientist Niles Caulder aka The Chief (TIMOTHY DALTON). Each member of the Doom Patrol suffered a horrible accident that gave them superhuman abilities but also left them scarred and disfigured. Traumatized and downtrodden, the team found their purpose through The Chief, coming together to investigate the weirdest phenomena in existence. Following the mysterious disappearance of The Chief, these reluctant heroes will find themselves in a place they never expected to be, called to action by none other than Cyborg (JOIVAN WADE), who comes to them with a mission hard to refuse. Part support group, part Super Hero team, the Doom Patrol is a band of superpowered freaks who fight for a world that wants nothing to do with them.

Doom Patrol premieres Friday, February 15th, on DC Universe.
