Dr. Stone Season 2 Episode 9 Recap - To Destroy and to Save

Cave Battle

Senku secures the nitric acid while Kohaku and the rest defend the entrance. Chrome scans the battlefield for something that can help them.

The villagers surround Tsukasa and Hyoga, but their techniques and strength are overwhelming. They stun Nikki and the others while the rest of Tsukasa’s army joins the fight.

Inside the cave, Senku scrambles to come up with white crystals from animal manure and nitric acid. Gen remembers that Senku’s luck is terrible at times like this.

Tsukasa finds himself in a bind against Kinro, Ginro, and Magma while Kohaku faces Hyoga. Tsukasa wins with ease but admires the enemy’s determination.

Gen scrambles for whatever trick he has in his pockets. Senku wishes he had sulfuric acid, but then Chrome arrives and brings a sample he took from the cannon’s shell.

Senku mixes it into the concoction and adds some glycerol from soap — one of the first things he made with Tsukasa.

Kohaku gets a hold of Hyoga’s spear, knowing he’s useless without his weapon, but another underling comes with a spare. Kohaku tells him their efforts aren’t in vain; Senku will find something to help them.

Dynamite

Senku slowly adds a drop of his concocted nitroglycerin and ponders a way to use it without harming anyone. Taiju blocks Tsukasa’s advance as he rushes to the cave, but Tsukasa and everyone’s attention are taken by a paper airplane hovering above them.

Senku doused the plane’s tip with nitroglycerin and launched it toward a tree branch — a massive explosion. He calls it the kamikaze dynamite as it smashes through the treetops.

Senku thanks his frontline while he, Gen, and Chrome arm themselves with paper planes. He boasts that they have ten megatons of power in their hands. Ukyo joins in and threatens the enemy with a dynamite-tipped arrow.

Hyoga inspects the exploded treetop and marvels at the destruction.

Taiju celebrates their victory, but Gen knows it’s not over yet. Tsukasa ponders his options, knowing that Senku wouldn’t want to hurt anyone. Senku offers to negotiate.

Senku points out that Tsukasa claims to rid the world of capitalism, yet he kept profiting from competitions and TV shows. It doesn’t match the ideals he claimed. Senku guesses that Tsukasa was doing it for his sister, who is still alive.

To Protect

Tsukasa’s eyes burn as he remembers his sister, Mirai, who contracted a disease that put her in a coma when he was young. It was Tsukasa who collected shells by the shore for her. Since then, he has worked hard to train himself daily. He joined professional fights to earn money for her hospital bills. Tsukasa swore to protect her until she could be fully cured.

Senku tells him he might de-petrify her because of the stone’s restorative powers. Taiju adds that the revival fluid healed Senku’s neck.

Senku offers to heal his sister in exchange for a truce. Tsukasa asks for evidence, but Senku can only offer his word.

Tsukasa looks up and tells him it’s enough. The battle is over.

The villagers return to their basecamp while the others reorient the Steam Gorilla. They learn that Tsukasa was protecting her sister all along. Taiju asks why he started destroying the statues and longed to purge mankind.

Tsukasa tells them he only picked survival in such a cruel Stone Age world. He was prepared to shoulder the sins to build an ideal world. Tsukasa tells Senku that their peace is merely a truce while they look for Mirai’s statue.

With some digging and quarrying, they finally find her sleeping in stone.

Our Thoughts

I think there’s more to this battle than meets the eye. There’s certainly more to come. I rate it 3.5/5.
