Emily in Paris Season 1 Episode 8 Recap - Family Affair

Emily attempts to keep her distance from Gabriel and Camille. Yet Camille sends her a message inviting her to lunch. Emily thinks Camille already knows about Gabriel and her, so she’s a bit scared to come. Mindy tells her it’s probably nothing. Emily asks her to take her out on the weekend, but Mindy tells her she can’t because her friends from China are coming. She’s also worried because she hasn’t told them about her being a nanny in Paris. She invites Emily to come with her as she meets them later that night.

Emily meets Camille for lunch and is so relieved that the only reason she wants to meet is to ask Emily to pitch their family’s champagne house as a client at Savoir. When Emily agrees, she invites her to the château for the weekend to learn more about their business. She also wants Emily to convince her mother, who is reluctant to get marketing agencies involved, to hire Savoir. But Emily’s quite hesitant because she thinks Gabriel will also be there. Camille tells her he won’t come; aside from having work, he’s also still upset about the loan her family is offering him.

Emily joins Mindy and her pals later that night, who prefer spraying champagne on each other rather than drinking it.

The next day, as Emily prepares to travel with Camille, she discovers Gabriel will join them, so they would have to fit into a two-seater automobile, forcing Emily to sit on Gabriel’s lap for the journey.

Upon arriving, they meet Camille’s mother, Louise, who immediately asks Gabriel to go to the market. Emily wants a house tour, but Louise tells her they don’t give one. But there is a tour of the vineyard if she likes one.

Refusing Gabriel’s offer to show her around the place, Emily ends up in the pool, where Gérard, Camille’s father, enjoys the view without any clothing. This takes Emily by surprise, so she rushes back inside, where Gabriel finds what happened amusing.

Emily and Gabriel head outside to get the bikes. Gabriel thought that Emily would come with him to the market. But Emily prefers not to be alone with him, so she opts for a wine tour instead. Gabriel thinks Emily is overreacting by avoiding him, but Emily doesn’t budge.

Emily meets Camille’s brother, Timothée, while on tour. He tells her he hopes to one day run the business, and he has been working there since finishing college. Emily tries to sell Savoir to Louise over dinner, but she says they don’t speak business while eating. Timothée compliments Gabriel on the meal. Louise advises him to take out the loan, so he may open his own restaurant. Gérard agrees but Gabriel excuses himself.

While in her room, Emily texts Mindy and tells her she should check out her friend’s live video. When Emily does, she’s delighted to see her friends have persuaded Mindy to sing onstage again. She sees them spraying champagne at each other again after the performance. Emily overhears Camille and Louise arguing, so she decides to go outside.

She finds herself by the pool, where Timothée joins her. The two end up in bed. Emily wakes up the next morning terrified to discover Timothée has given her a hickey. She chooses a top to conceal it and heads downstairs for breakfast. Camille introduces Emily to another one of her brothers after she arrives, perplexing Emily. Timothée, it turns out, is just 17 years old, and is not the brother Camille is eager for Emily to meet. It worsens when Timothée arrives and kisses Emily, confirming they slept together. Camille thinks it’s amusing, but Louise doesn’t think so. She summons Emily to her office immediately.

Emily attempts furiously to explain what happened, only to discover that Louise is only interested in knowing if Timothée knows how to make love. Relieved, Emily tells her he does and does her marketing pitch. Louise tells her they need help with the surplus. Emily tells her they can make a champagne meant to be sprayed and associate it with a separate label called Champère, so it does not mix with their premium brand.

Our Thoughts

We’re optimistic about the partnership cooking between Emily and Champère. We know it will bring Camille and Emily closer to each other and stop Gabriel from flirting with her. Honestly, we want them to end up together, but it doesn’t look like it will happen. So we want Emily to find someone she’ll not be guilty to be with. But Emily sleeping with a 17-year-old is really unacceptable; it makes her look desperate and unethical. But we have to admit that what happened is really confusing. At the end of the day, we’re thankful it does not ruin Savoir’s chances of signing Champère as a client. Hooray!
