Emily in Paris Season 2 Episode 1 Recap - Voulez-Vous Coucher Avec Moi?

Emily gets flashbacks of her steamy night with Gabriel while she jogs — she nearly gets run over by a car.

Back at her apartment, Mindy asks Emily’s opinion about the costume she will wear later on her first night at her new job. She also asks Emily to come to see her perform and bring some of her friends. Mindy wants to prove she can bring in customers to her employer.

Emily receives a text message from Camille asking if she has seen Gabriel. When she tells her she hasn’t, Camille tells her they should talk later that day after their meeting. Upon reading, Emily frowns. Mindy sees her and asks why. Emily tells her she might have lost a friend because she slept with Gabriel.

Mindy reminds Emily of her upcoming trip to Saint-Tropez with Mathieu and tells her how it is the perfect alibi.

Emily heads out to get to Savoir. She sees Gabriel taking down the old restaurant’s name. She talks to him about meeting with Camille. He tells her he only told Camille about him staying in Paris — thanks to Antoine’s investment. Emily tells him she never meant to interfere with their relationship and compared what she has done with violating the Prime Directive. Gabriel tells her she didn’t do anything wrong.

Their conversation gets interrupted by Antoine, who asks Emily’s opinion about the name of their new restaurant: Maison Lavaux. Emily tells them she doesn’t have an opinion. Antoine invites her to the tasting dinner the following night. Emily tells him she cannot make it; she will be in Saint-Tropez with Mathieu.

Upon arriving at the office, Emily sees Luc and Sylvie preparing materials for Champère. Sylvie tells her that Luc will be handling Champère because it is a French product. Surprisingly, Emily agrees with Sylvie, wanting to excuse herself from the meeting. She asks them to tell Camille she’s out sick.

Julien tells them Camille has arrived and is looking for Emily. Emily approaches Camille and asks her if everything’s fine. Camille tells her she’s fine, but she doesn’t know what to do with Gabriel. Emily tells her it is a good thing for them that he’s staying in Paris. Camille tells her she knows he’s not staying for her and something else is behind his decision.

Sylvie and Luc interrupt Camille and Emily’s conversation to tell them they’re ready for the meeting. Luc presents his ad to Camille, which focuses on the champagne being an aphrodisiac. Emily sees flashbacks of her night with Gabriel again. Luc says there is a trendy club at Saint-Tropez that Sylvie has connections to, and they will also promote the champagne.

Camille asks Emily to have lunch with her. Emily subtly begs Sylvie to come with them. While in the restaurant, Camille rants about Gabriel staying in Paris because of Antoine’s investment. She says she’s upset because Gabriel did not take her family’s offer to fund his business, but he took on a stranger’s offer to do the same. Camille says he cannot stay with a man whose ego is so fragile that he’d rather move away than accept her family’s support. She adds that he has been acting weird; she knows there is something else. Camille excuses herself to go to the bathroom.

Sylvie accuses Emily of having an affair with Gabriel. Emily tells her she’s wrong and is actually going on a weekend vacation with Mathieu. Sylvie tells her she’s getting more French by the day.

Back at the office, Emily receives a message from Mindy reminding her to bring friends to her show that night. Emily invites Julien and Luc, but Julien tells her he’s busy preparing for his account. Luc tells her he’ll go.

Julien presents his idea for Rimowa’s campaign, but the clients aren’t impressed. They say they want something big and noisy like the ones they did on Pierre Cadault. Emily saves Julien by suggesting a collaboration with Pierre.

Emily pitches the idea to Mathieu in a phone call, suggesting Pierre’s face on a giant suitcase. He says he’ll take it to Pierre and tells her he booked the train with their own couchettes.

Emily tells Julien and Luc about Mathieu talking to Pierre. Julien is displeased, telling Emily he didn’t ask for her help.

At Mindy’s work, the manager asks for her work permit. When she tells him she doesn’t have it with her, the manager tells her she’ll be working for tips until he sees it.

Camille comes to Emily’s apartment so they can go together to Mindy’s. She notices an omelet pan and tells Emily she cannot even see a pan without thinking of Gabriel. Emily quickly tells her all pans look alike, but Camille tells her that Gabriel’s had his initials on them. Before Camille can look at the pan closely, Emily pulls her and tells her they need to go. Just as Emily shuts the door, she receives a text from Mindy telling her she shouldn’t come; it is not a good night.

Emily, Camille, and Luc patiently wait for Mindy’s performance at the bar. Emily excuses herself to go to the bathroom. When she gets there, she sees Mindy as la dame pipi. Mindy explains it is the best they could offer her because she has no papers. They offered her a song, though. The host calls her name just as she says it. Luc tips her with 20 euros after her song and seems to be completely taken by her.

Emily, Mindy, and Camille walk by Gabriel’s restaurant on their way home. Emily pushes Camille to talk to him. Camille tells them that if he wants her back, he will have to work for it.

The next morning, a Rimowa suitcase with Pierre’s face on it gets delivered to Savoir for Emily. Julien receives it and confronts Emily for stealing his account. Sylvie teases Emily for having to get Mathieu’s approval. Julien tells Emily they are competitors and not friends.

At the restaurant, Antoine talks to his folks about calling the restaurant Chez Lavaux. When he sees Gabriel cooking tripe with cider, his homage to Normandy, Antoine reminds him of their agreement not to serve dishes from Normandy.

Meanwhile, Emily packs her things using the suitcase from Rimowa and tells Mindy she’s going to have a weekend with a single man she likes a lot.

At the train station, Mathieu helps Emily with her luggage. It is heavy, so he checks it in with the porter.

Back at the restaurant, Gabriel serves his guests with Tripe a la Normandy. Looking at it, Antoine doesn’t seem so pleased; he already told Gabriel not to serve tripe. He tastes it and excuses himself from the table. He approaches Gabriel and commends him for the delicious dish and for sticking to his convictions.

Emily calls Gabriel from the train. She says she’s on a train to Saint-Tropez with Mathieu. Gabriel tells her he cannot believe the girl he stayed in Paris for doesn’t want to be with him. Emily tells him to stop saying he stayed for her. Gabriel tells her he cannot; he cannot stop thinking about her. Emily tells him she cannot stop thinking about him also, but she has to because she doesn’t want to hurt Camille. She tells him that what happened was a mistake. As she speaks, Mathieu makes his presence known. He tells Emily he cannot spend a weekend with a girl in love with someone else, so he leaves and lets Emily go to Saint-Tropez alone.

Our Thoughts

Emily is in a very complicated situation. We’re disappointed because we really want her to be with Gabriel, but we also do not want her to lose one of her good few friends in Paris. Camille doesn’t deserve to be hurt too. We’re also sad for Mathieu, and we just hope what happened between them won’t affect Pierre’s business with Savoir, or else Emily will find herself in hot water again. It wouldn’t do her any favors, especially when Julien is so upset with Emily when she just clearly wants to help him. Argh, why can’t Emily’s life just be simple?
