Emily in Paris Season 2 Episode 7 Recap - The Cook, the Thief, Her Ghost and His Lover

Emily begins her day unhappy about the hot weather. Mindy tells her she has to get them a fan, so they can at least have some air. Emily tells her she’s going to the office early because it might be cooler there.

Emily passes by Gabriel, who is changing the menu for his restaurant. He tells Emily there will be a new menu every day to reflect the season, so he won’t serve anything past its expiration date.

She arrives at the office and gets disappointed when Julien tells her they also don’t have air conditioning because it’s not common in Paris.

Sylvie is on a video call with Madeline. Emily passes by Sylvie’s office and hears her voice. Emily walks in and says hi. Sylvie tells Madeleine she’ll end the call if she has nothing else to talk about. Madeleine tells her she’s got great news. She says they are promoting Pelotech’s international roll-out and their next stop is France. Emily gets excited, but Sylvie doesn’t seem too pleased.

Emily gets a message from Alfie asking her to drink before French class.

Mindy rants to Benoît about getting next to no tips that day. He tells her hot weather means smaller crowds. He plays a song. Mindy gets surprised he composes songs. He shares he went to music school but got discouraged when his favorite teacher told him to stop writing songs. He says he only started writing again when Mindy joined the band. They kiss each other.

Emily and Alfie enjoy their drink in a coffee cup while walking to French class. Emily suggests they skip the class; they are too drunk for it. But Alfie says he can’t skip: he needs his attendance slip signed for work. Upon arriving at French class, their teacher greets them and presents their latest exam results.

Alfie gets called to the board to write a sentence in French. When he fails to do so, their classmates make fun of him. Emily steps in to save him from embarrassment by telling their teacher he’s trying — in French. After the class, the teacher tells Emily she has done a good job but cannot say the same for Alfie.

Alfie tells Emily he cannot wait to get home and stand in front of his airconditioner. Emily tells him her building is so ancient, she wishes she had AC too. Alfie invites her to his place; she obliges. Once there, she tells Alfie he could do with a little color and life in there. He tells Emily he has a boring job and a boring apartment. Marketing is a cool job, so Emily’s life in Paris is far more interesting than his. They end up sleeping together.

Emily wakes up beside Alfie and tries to get dressed without waking him up. Alfie wakes up in time and asks Emily to kiss him before leaving. Emily borrows Alfie’s jacket because her top got ripped the night before.

Emily bumps into Gabriel in front of their building. Gabriel asks why she’s wearing a man’s jacket. Emily tells him the jacket is hers and the oversized power suit trend is in.

At Savoir, a representative from Pelotech presents their product and boasts they can ride together with their friends virtually. The French team isn’t convinced and thinks no one will want to ride it when they can just ride along the Seine. Emily checks on her phone and sends Alfie another message; he didn’t reply to the first one.

At the park, Mindy and Benoît pack up after a gig. Étienne tells them they should sing “Chandelier” next time because he thought he had heard her sing it before. She knows he knows something about her, so she confronts him. Étienne tells her he sent a picture of their band to his cousin in Shanghai, and that was how he found out Mindy is super-rich and famous. Mindy asks him to keep what he knows a secret. She’s trying to reinvent herself in Paris.

Emily tries to call Alfie; her call goes straight to voicemail. Julien hears her and tells her she sounded desperate. She tells him she met someone who is not responding to her texts. He tells her if it has been more than 24 hours, then he does not like her, or she should file a missing person’s report.

Madeleine discusses the Pelotech account with Sylvie. Sylvie isn’t so pleased and tells her she better leave the creatives to the people actually in France. She further tells Madeleine that just because Pelotech is expensive doesn’t mean it’s luxury. She thinks the brand is not a great fit for her office. Madeleine does not quite like it, so she says they’ll talk about it some other time. Sylvie dismisses her.

Emily gets to the office and asks where the Pelotech bike is. Luc and Julien tell her Sylvie told them to get rid of it.

Emily gets a text from Gabriel, saying that an Englishman is looking for her in Chez Lavaux. Emily arrives and sees Gabriel and Alfie watching a football game together. Emily confronts Alfie for not texting her, calling her back, and just showing up there. Alfies tells her he lost his phone, so there was no way of contacting her. But he knew she did an event on Chez Lavaux, so he thought he’d ask about her there.

He asks Emily for his phone. She gets confused because she didn’t take it. Alfie tells her he’s pretty sure it’s in his suit jacket she borrowed. Gabriel realizes he is referring to Emily’s jacket earlier that day. Emily excuses herself and goes to get the jacket.

She finds Mindy chillin’ in front of a fan. Mindy boasts it is Benoît’s gift. Emily tells her Alfie isn’t a ghost. It’s just that she had his phone so he couldn’t answer her calls.

When she comes back to the restaurant, she sees Gabriel smoking outside. She apologizes for what happened. He asks Emily if Alfie is the reason she didn’t want to be with him. Instead of arguing, Emily just agreed with him. Gabriel tells her it’s hard to watch because he wants Emily to be happy, but he gets hurt seeing her falling for someone.

Alfie comes and asks Emily to have drinks with him. He looks for his phone in his jacket but fails to see it. Emily shows him she has his phone, but before she returns it, she needs to delete some messages first. Alfie asks her how many. She says there are too many.

Meanwhile, Sylvie starts a session and rides the Pelotech bike.

Our Thoughts

Whew, Emily got some action again, thanks to Alfie! But we cannot say we’re totally happy; we aren’t giving up on Emily and Gabriel. We all know Emily likes him too, but she chooses not to. We think there is still somehow a way for them to be together. We find Étienne annoying because he might ruin things between Mindy and Benoît with the secret he’s keeping. Lastly, we don’t get why Sylvie refuses to collaborate with Madeleine. Well, she might hate being managed, but it is Madeleine’s job to actually manage her, so why doesn’t she just let her?
