Disney Plus

Stinger Topic of the Week: Disney Plus

18:20 Disney Plus (also Disney+) is a new streaming service from Disney. It’s the same idea as Netflix – you pay monthly and you get to watch Disney’s content on-demand.

It will launch November 12th and it will cost $6.99/month or $69.99/year. You can also purchase a bundle with Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ for $12.99/month. And we hear you might be able to get a free year with Verizon unlimited… keep your fingers crossed!

The service will offer most of Disney’s content at launch. You’ll be able to watch your favorite Disney Channel shows as well as ALL the Disney movies from the vault. Disney owns WAY more than you may realize, including all the Marvel and Star Wars movies.

Speaking of Star Wars, Shannon & Patty get into a conversation about the correct order to watch the Star Wars movies – and we have opinions!

It’s also important to note that The Last Jedi and Solo will not be available on Disney+ until some time in 2020 because they are still on Netflix to honor original agreements.

New Disney+ Shows Available at Launch

We talk about the new, original content that will be available and what we’re most excited about! Disney will have one or two episodes of these new series at launch, and then release new episodes weekly. So the good news is you won’t have to put your life on hold to binge hours of new Disney+ content!

Disney Plus shows

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series: We’re all in for this High School Musical series, in spite of the bizarre name and the fact that they’re calling it a mockumentary. Patty has seen a screener of the first episode and loved it.

The Mandalorian: This Star Wars universe series is set a few years after Return of the Jedi.

Encore!: Hosted by Kristen Bell, this series will reunite people who starred together in their high school musicals to reprise the roles of their youth.

Marvel’s Hero Project: This series celebrates inspiring young heroes in real life who are making a difference in their communities. Patty has seen a few episodes and says to make sure you get your tissues ready!

The World According to Jeff Goldblum: Jeff explores everyday things we take for granted to reveal their history, science, and connections you may not have known about.

A live action movie version of Lady and the Tramp will debut on the platform on November 12, as well as Noelle, a comedy starring Anna Kendrick as Santa Claus’s daughter, who is taking over the family business. Bill Hader plays her brother.

Who else can’t wait for Disney Plus? Have you pre-ordered yet? What’s the first thing you want to watch?
