Good Morning Call Season 1 Episode 11 Recap - Father Knows Best

Uehara and Nao come home from school. To their surprise, when they reach the front of their apartment building, they see Nao’s parents waiting outside. At first, Nao tells her parents they can’t go inside because it’s small, then she tells them it’s messy. Her mother insists they go inside since she already brought an apron to clean Nao’s house.

Uehara stands there outside the door not knowing what to do. Nao quickly goes inside to clean the house. She tries to hide Uehara’s things including the magazine and toothbrush. She is not yet done when her parents walk in. Her mom even asks Uehara to come inside.

Nao’s mom prepares croquettes for them and talks about Nao’s situation while eating. Uehara tells Nao’s father that it is his first time visiting Nao. Nao tells her parents that Uehara works hard at his part-time jobs but still manages to be on top of his class. Nao’s mom is happy to hear this so she asks Uehara if he could be Nao’s tutor.

Because the tea is hot, Nao’s father accidentally pours some over himself. Uehara quickly grabs the stuffed toy with tissue inside and hands it to Nao’s father. Nao’s father gets suspicious and asks Uehara how come he knows the stuffed toy had tissue inside when it only looks like a normal stuffed toy. Uehara bows and admits to him that he and Nao are dating. Nao’s mom tells Uehara to go to work and walks him to the door.

Because Nao’s father is the only one left in the living room, he gets curious about the other room in the house. Nao has told them it’s a walk-in closet and they can’t go inside because it’s messy. Nao’s father discovers a man’s bedroom when he opens the other door, and he quickly stops Uehara from leaving.

Nao’s father scolds Nao and complains about her not telling them the truth. Nao insists she doesn’t want her parents to worry about her. Nao’s parents argue with one another, pushing the blame to each other as to why they spoiled Nao so much. Nao stands up and stops her parents from fighting. Nao’s father tells his family that he can’t just let them get away with it, and he will not let Nao stay in the house any longer. He tells Nao she has to come back home with them. Uehara gets surprised and worried, so he tells Nao’s father that he will be the one leaving. He packs some of his things and decides to stay someplace else.

Nao confronts her father and tells him to believe her. She has told him earlier that they were victims of a scam. Her father stood his ground and tells her daughter that he will not allow Nao to live with Uehara. Nao’s father tells her that if Nao continues to live with Uehara they will sever ties with Nao. Nao gets so angry at her father that she goes to her room and screams how much she hates him.

The next day Nao meets up with Marina to tell her about her problems. Marina tells her friend that she can’t let her parents transfer her to a new school. Nao is more worried about not seeing Uehara anymore than the idea of moving to a new school. Nao’s mother and father visit Nao’s workplace and were glad to hear that Nao has been working hard and is loved by everyone.

Over at the house Uehara and Nao share, Nao walks in and confronts her father. She gets angry and asks him why he called the landlady of the house. Nao’s father tells her that he only told the landlady Nao will be leaving. Nao gets so worried about what will happen to Uehara and tries to explain this to her father his situation. Her father tells her that he doesn’t care about what will happen to Uehara since it has nothing to do with their family. Nao tells her father she hates him and walks out of the room.

Nao waits for Uehara outside the coffee shop. Uehara sees the bag she is holding and asks her what happened. Nao tells him that she ran away from home because she doesn’t want to see her father anymore. She admits to Uehara that if her father wants to sever ties with her then she will do just that.

Uehara grabs the bag from Nao and tells her that he will take her back home. Uehara tells her that he doesn’t want Nao to sever ties with her father. Nao just quietly follows Uehara after he convinces her. None of them notices that Nao’s mother has been listening all along to their conversation.

Nao’s mom goes inside the coffee shop and pretends to be a relative of Uehara. Uehara’s boss tells her he wanted to help Uehara before when he found out that Uehara’s parents died when he was young. He also adds that Uehara’s older brother, Takuya will be living overseas with his wife. Nao’s mother goes home and talks to her family. With Nao sitting beside her, she tells her husband that she is against forcing Nao to come back home. She tells her husband Uehara’s life story and asks him to think over his decision.

After Uehara’s work, he goes to the Ramen shop and gets surprised to find Nao’s father eating there. They talk about their lives, and what they will do about the situation. Uehara asks Nao’s father to let them live together. Nao’s father keeps a straight face and asks Uehara what he’s going to do if he says no. Uehara tells him it will only end once there is an opening in the girl’s dorm. Uehara tells Nao’s father that he will take care of Nao. Nao’s father asks him if he knows what it’s like to take care of someone. Uehara answers the question and Nao’s father orders a refill for their ramen bowls.

Meanwhile, at home, Nao’s mother teaches Nao how to make croquettes. Nao takes the chance to apologize to her mother. Her mother tells her to make a promise not to lie to her again. Nao’s father comes home drunk with Uehara. Nao’s mother tells Nao that her father must have given Uehara his approval already.

The next day, they say goodbye to Nao’s parents. At the ramen shop, Nao asks Issei if she can stay for a while after work. A woman walks in and tells Issei she can’t forget about him. She asks him out on a date, but Issei tells her he can’t do that. Nao watches from the side, not saying anything. Issei quickly looks for a reason to give the woman as to why he can’t date her. She sees Nao observing them, so he pulls her to his side and introduces her as his girlfriend. Uehara walks into the shop and hears Issei.

Our Thoughts:

We thought that Nao’s parents will do something about Nao and Uehara living together. They tried to, but they gave up so easily. We wished they were firm about it so we can see what will happen to the two if they get separated. Since Daichi is gone, we have to say we prefer Issei over Uehara. Uehara is just mean to Nao all the time. It would be nice to see her with someone who is good to her. But we doubt that the thing with Issei will last long. We need to see other characters, new ones to add flavor to the story.
