FOX's 'Gotham' Renewed for Fifth and Final Season

When all good shows are coming to an end, FOX’s “Gotham”—the Batman origin TV series focused on a pre-teen Bruce Wayne and a clean-cut Jim Gordon before his Commissioner days—managed to survive the cut. The network renewed the series based off of DC Comics for a fifth and final season, according to Deadline. Although this is the case, fans could only expect for a 13-episode run rather than a 20-episode season. It is also said that the next season might take a while to air than usual.

Gotham is a TV series following the rise to justice by Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) in Gotham City. The series revolves around the time where Bruce Wayne/Batman (David Mazouz) is still young and naive. Meanwhile, Joker (Jerome Valeska) still is not as evil as the Joker as we know of today.

Gotham City Closes?

Although FOX is yet to confirm the final 13 episodes of the show, it is still a monumental event for “Gotham.” The 13 episodes will mark the show’s 100 episodes which makes it a good series to syndicate. Hence, the syndication will propel the success for Warner Bros TV. Syndication is when a show gets to preview on other TV networks. One of the possible networks will be Netflix.

In the show’s last five episodes, Gotham City is in grave danger. Since the Legion of Terror, led by Jerome Valeska, is on its way to conquering the city, Jim Gordon has no control over the group. The league maximizes the time they have to regroup and reign over the city. But in an unfortunate turn of events, Jerome dies from jumping down a building while fighting with Jim. But his death is not the end of it all. He sends his brother Jeremiah Valeska a bottle of laughing gas turning him into the new villain.

Meanwhile, the League of Shadows encounters a downfall of their core group. For the original members, Barbara Kean does not fit to rule them. They questioned her capacity as the right hand of the devil. Since Bruce Wayne killed Ra’s al Ghul (Alexander Siddig) to fulfill the prophecy, he is also the only one who can bring him back to life. Now that Ra’s is back, he tries to reclaim the power he vested upon Barbara. But he fails because Barbara now mastered the powers she has.

Gotham is on its last episode for this season. But the fans will wait until 2019 to get the final season of the show. In the meantime, we’d all have to gear up for “Gotham” Season 4’s finale, titled “No Man’s Land,” May 17th, at 8/9c on FOX.
