Harry Potter Anniversary Producers Apologize for Mistaking Childhood Photo of Emma Roberts for Emma Watson

The New Year had HBO Max bring to us a 20th Anniversary special for the Harry Potter films, and despite the emotional moments between cast members, there was one mistake that fans spotted when it came to one childhood photo of Emma Watson.

It was @vee_delmonico99 who pointed out that the childhood photo in the special that was supposed to be of Watson was actually that of actress Emma Roberts. Here’s the post:

In a statement to Entertainment Weekly, producers of Return to Hogwarts confirm the mistake and had issued the statement:

“Well spotted Harry Potter fans!… You brought an editing mistake of a mislabeled photograph to our attention. New version up shortly.”

It sounds like a common goof that anyone could make, but so far neither Watson nor Roberts have had anything to say about the mishap. At least we know that there will be two cuts of the Potter special now, one with a surprise cameo from a young Emma Roberts, and another without.

Despite the stumbling of the Fantastic Beasts franchise, the Potter films remain solid, and it was so heart-warming to see all the actors coming together after all these years. Not only did audiences get to watch Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe, and Rupert Grint grow up in the films, but now they also get to revisit them a decade after their last time in the Wizarding World, having grown so much.

Catch Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts now streaming on HBO Max.
