In From the Cold Season 1 Episode 2 Recap - The Bride

Anya gets out of the toilet room having a man’s body, but when she looks in the mirror, she sees her real self wearing a guard suit. Chauncey asks Anya if everything is okay. She blurts out that he knew she could morph. Chris locates Yannick, and it shows that he‘s in block G, on the south side of the facility, past the prison yard. Anya’s on her way to find Yannick. When she sees him, Yannick attacks her. She tells him the reason she’s looking for him. Before Yannick can say anything more, he starts to choke. It turns out that the food he ate is poisoned. Anya runs outside the place to meet with Chauncey and Chris. Chauncey tells Anya that she lied again and could body-morph, but he knew it already because it‘s all in her files. She tells him that Yannick is dead, then she hands Yannick’s burner phone to Chauncey.

Anya goes back to her original form. Chauncey tells her she‘s the only human subject ever to survive what the Russians called “The Yaroslav Program.” It started as a bioweapons program in the 80s under the KGB. She says it’s been 20 years. Iron helps replenish her, but it doesn’t take away the pain.

While Anya is on her mission, Becca had texted her, asking for her whereabouts. Chauncey and Chris took care of it. Chris cloned Anya’s phone while she‘s unconscious in the safe house. Chauncey replied with some cover-up story. Anya and Becca go out to eat. They talk about Becca’s father who cannot see her skate because of work. Anya doesn’t want her to say such because he‘s the one who pays for their trip, Becca’s ice-skating lessons, and their house. Becca questions her that just because her dad pays for everything, he gets to miss everything. Her daughter thinks she‘s defending him while knowing that he did something that led to their divorce.

In another flashback, Anya was at the bar again. Su-Yin told her that Faina couldn’t come because her dad grounded her for going out the other night. She asked for Faina’s number from him. She called Faina on her number and started chatting – telling her she wanted to get to know her.

Chauncey and Chris talk about how Yannick’s phone doesn’t give them anything. Chris says his calls were made to one landline number, so the landline is probably hooked up to some router that encrypts his real calls. They must get the router he used to know who he‘s talking to and plotting with. The router gets tracked — Pan Bendito.

Anya’s in the ice-skating practice to watch Becca. Chauncey calls her for a job, but Anya decides to stay so Chauncey and Chris do the job because Anya’s unavailable. Chauncey brings Chris because he needs a backup. They knock on one of the houses to ask about Yannick. A boy named Vasco opens the door for them and lets them into the house. The people there believe that Yannick is alive, telling them he will arrive soon. As soon as Chauncey points his gun, the people also gets their weapons as a defense. Chauncey tells the lady, one of the area members, that Yannick is dead. Chris tells them they are all free and asks them to let them go. Chauncey tells the lady that they can keep operating at their place for free after giving them the device they’ve been using to encrypt Yannick’s calls from prison. They agree in exchange for the watch that Chris is wearing.

Anya and Becca arrive in their hotel room from the ice-skating rink. Anya tells Becca she loves her and asks if she knows that. Her daughter answers “yes,” but she’s unsure if Anya means it when she says it. Becca tells her that a bit of space from the trip is the best for them.

Chris says Yannick’s router has much more than just phone numbers. The number they see are coded values corresponding to a series of longitudes and latitudes. Anya says the coordinates could suggest specific locations targeted for a terrorist attack. Chauncey says the so-called victims: the businessman, the student, and the plaza lady can all be traced back to an individual target site. The businessman, Mario Santa-Cruz, was a CEO of a very successful trading company with an office in the Centro Colón. The student, Kristian Arija Ax, was an opera buff who worked at the box office of the Teatro Real. The plaza lady, Bárbara Pérez Soler, was head of marketing at the Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas. Chris says Yannick has some good inside intel on-site security from these victims, but they don’t get why Yannick, a local figure in organized crime, is now becoming a terrorist. Chris tells them that one victim hasn’t yet been accounted for — Lidia Orsorio. She works as a docent at the Temple of Debod — an ancient temple that‘s a gift from the Egyptian government. This girl is alive and well, set to tie the knot at the Church of Santa Engracia in Zaragoza.

Anya and Chauncey go to the Church of Santa Engracia in Zaragoza. Something happens while they‘re inside the church. Lidia shows herself with blood on her wedding gown, and the groom begins to point the gun somewhere, so Chauncey shoots him. As Anya goes outside to follow Lidia, she sees the bridesmaids lying on the floor, dead.

Anya, Chauncey, and Chris are back at the house. Chris asks if Lidia has just merked her entire bridal party. Anya answers it‘s not Lidia or Miguel. They‘re both innocent victims of mind control she had never seen before. Chauncey agrees and says that whoever has such skillset wants to cover their tracks by making it look like something The Whisper might do. Anya tells them she’ll find Lidia.

In another flashback, Anya’s walking on Marshal Tukhachevsky Street to meet Su-Yin. She gave him a colored pink box to give to Faina. It had the necklace inside the box that she had lost somewhere from her late mother. Su-Yin gave the box to Faina. Anya got inside a van where two people wearing black coats are. One praised her because the necklace she gave had a tracking device in the pendant. Through it, they could map out the embassy.

Anya gets home to her daughter’s place and goes to the side of the bed where Becca sleeps. She stares at Becca sleeping while remembering all the bridesmaids who were killed. She walks away, not knowing that Becca’s awake. Anya searches for Lidia. She notices there‘s no information about Lidia’s parents and siblings. She then finds an article dated May 9, 1999. It says “a small plane catches fire, Carmen and Mateo Orsorio killed, but their daughter, Lidia, survives.” She realizes Lidia‘s an orphan, all alone, until she meets Miguel. Anya finds the Cementerio de La Almudena while scrolling through Lidia’s account.

Anya goes to the cemetery and finds Lidia crying. She says Lidia shouldn’t be afraid, but Lidia points her gun at her. Lidia says she did horrible things and killed her friends. Anya offers to help Lidia, but Lidia pulls the trigger.

Our Thoughts

Did Anya have feelings for Faina? It shows she had feelings for her, even though they just met. It could also be love at first sight between them. The flashbacks show how Anya also fell in love, and it seemed like she lost her along the way because of her mission. We think it’s tough to choose between something involving an important matter and your love for a person.

Moreover, was someone controlling Lidia? Why did she kill her friends? Is it the same situation that happened in the first episode? Why were there specific victims being targeted by the villain? If the culprit is copying The Whisper, they might be really after her. They know, sooner or later, she will show up.
