Katherine Langford Bids Farewell To '13 Reasons Why' Hannah Baker

If Netflix decides to renew its hit teen series “13 Reasons Why” for the third season, it’ll be without its lead character Hannah Baker. On Friday, actress Katherine Langford bid farewell to her character through an Instagram post. The actress also confirmed it through an interview with EW on the same day.

According to Katherine Langford, it was time for Hannah’s story to end. In the interview with EW, she said, “It definitely felt like time. For me, letting Hannah go was in season 1; season 2 was for Clay to let her go. It was being able to assist Clay on that journey as Hannah and let Clay have his moment to let Hannah go.”

The actress also expounded on her thoughts about her character. For her, season 1 was all about Hannah. And season 2 was like being in purgatory. It all ends in letting go of Hannah for everyone in the story but most especially Clay.

As for the direction of her career, Katherine Langford paid tribute to her first ever job and called it a really special part of her life. However, the actress has also expressed excitement for what’s to come after.

As she said in the interview, “Even though the show is so huge, and I’m so thankful to have had the opportunity to play Hannah, it still is just one thing that I’ve done, and since then I feel very grateful to have been a part of ‘Love, Simon,’ and I have another film, ‘Spontaneous.’ But I think ultimately, I feel like playing Hannah was such a small part of me that was magnified, and I’m just really excited to, over the next few months or years, show the rest of me.”

Netflix has not released an official statement regarding a third season for “13 Reasons Why.” Controversies still abound much more so that the second season of the show has become parallel to real life issues surrounding teens and schools nowadays. According to BBC, the Parents Television Council in the USA has urged Netflix to cancel the show. In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Amy Powell stated that the final decision lies with showrunner Brian Yorkey.

“It’s up to Brian. We’re not going to pressure him to create more seasons if he doesn’t feel they are there, but he is already starting to think about what a season three could be.”
