Kevin Spacey Won't Be in the Final Season of 'House of Cards', Robin Wright to Take the Lead

The “House of Cards” has crumbled and is now ready to be rebuilt by a different tyrant. Netflix confirms that Kevin Spacey, the disgraced former star of the popular political drama, will not be in the show’s final season.
In a statement made by Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos (via Deadline) at the UBS Global Media and Communications Conference in New York, “House of Cards” will restart its production next year, with Robin Wright’s character, Claire Underwood, taking the lead role.
Instead of the usual 13-episode release that Netflix always has for the show, it will only have an “abridged” version, with only eight episodes for the sixth and final season. The shortened final season also aims to “bring closure” to the many fans of “House of Cards,” at the same time bringing jobs back to the 2,000 members of the production crew in the Baltimore area.
The show’s production halt was extended until December 8, with the resumption of the schedule unclear. It was initially planned for “House of Cards” to restart production after Thanksgiving, with the script reworked to exclude the now ex-president Frank Underwood, played by Kevin Spacey. But now that Frank is written out of the show’s narrative, it’s unclear how the streaming service will execute this drastic change in “House of Cards.”
Season 5 ended with Frank forcibly resigning his post as PotUS, with Claire assuming the presidency and uttering the final words, “my turn” before the scene ended. In line with this development, the extent of rewriting that needs to be done for the show to work without its former lead star is unclear.
