'Legends of Tomorrow' Season 3: Constantine Will Be Back For Two Episodes

Hardcore fans of Constantine are in for a huge treat once “Legends of Tomorrow” returns for Season 3 on The CW. Actor Matt Ryan, who played the character back in 2014 in his own NBC show (which was eventually canceled due to poor ratings), confirms that he will return to reprise his role as the occult detective and will join the time-travelling team for a two-part episode.
Ryan previously appeared as Constantine in an episode of “Arrow” Season 4, and though he only appeared briefly, his return was heavily appreciated by fans. This led The CW to adapt Constantine into a new show, this time in the form of an animated web-series—to which Ryan will also lend his voice to. It’s set to premiere sometime during 2018. But fans won’t have to wait for long because Constantine will definitely back in action for “Legends of Tomorrow.”

Constantine joins the ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ team

In a report by The Hollywood Reporter, “Legends of Tomorrow” executive producer Phil Klemmer confirms Ryan’s return as Constantine. “Having Matt Ryan reprise his iconic — dare we say legendary — role of John Constantine on Legends is something that [executive producer] Marc [Guggenheim] and I have been working toward since season one, and now the stars have finally aligned,” Klemmer said. “While we are working to finish our 2017 Arrow-verse crossover, which is no joke the most ambitious bit of network TV that four shows have ever had the audacity and insanity to endeavor, we were looking for a way to make an equally exciting 2018 return. That’s how we came up with Matt Ryan.”

“As for the character of Constantine, we knew that an alienated, chain-smoking, bisexual, world-weary demonologist would feel right at home among our Legends,” Klemmer added.
As for what his role would involve, Klemmer also says that Constantine’s “Arrow” appearance will be addressed, including the events that led to that season’s final episode. He will also have to do some exorcism, as “Legends of Tomorrow’s” big bad will involve plenty of dabbling in the dark arts. With Constantine in the forefront of the action, the third season is beginning to look a very epic showdown with magic and superheroes.
“Legends of Tomorrow” Season 3 premieres Tuesday, October 10 at 9 PM on The CW.
