Lucifer Season 2 Episode 16 Recap - God Johnson

[00:01:00] Lucifer was lying on a stretcher, and he was acting weird. A day before everything went awry, Linda had invited Lucifer to talk. She was worried about his plan to double-cross his mother. Lucifer told her that the plan was on hold since they couldn’t work out what was wrong with the flaming sword. Linda wanted to know what Maze thought of Lucifer’s plan; however, he told her that Maze didn’t know about it. Lucifer added that Maze was busy with Chloe at the moment. Meanwhile, Chloe did her best to leave the house before Maze saw her; however, she was unsuccessful. Maze had made her breakfast, but burnt toast wasn’t Chloe’s thing, so she scooted on out. Chloe went to meet Lucifer for their next case, and she suggested that he should spend some time with Maze.

[00:03:30] Lucifer told Chloe that Maze would find a new thing to do or someone new to bug; however, until then, Chloe was the new Lucifer. Ella briefed them on the new case; the victim was Toby Mulligan. He was an orderly at the psychiatric ward, and they weren’t able to interview anyone yet because it was a psychiatric ward. God Johnson had found the murder victim; he thought he was actually God and had changed everything in his life to reflect it. Dan told Lucifer that they needed to go through the proper channels to set up an interview with God. Chloe accompanied Dan to talk with the hospital administrator. Lucifer, on the other hand, snuck into the room to have a chat with God. He tried to use his powers on God; however, they didn’t work. Another orderly went into the room and told Lucifer to leave.

[00:05:50] Just as Lucifer was leaving, God called him by his real name. Lucifer thought that God was really God. He returned to Lux to talk to Amenadiel; he asked him if God had ever visited earth before; however, Amenadiel was not aware that such an event had ever happened. Lucifer couldn’t explain the feeling of speaking with God Johnson, but Amenadiel told him that he was just another mentally ill human, and it didn’t mean anything. Back at the precinct, Ella found a full set of prints on Toby’s head, which belonged to Earl Johnson, a.k.a God. Earl’s wife had admitted him because he had suddenly given all his money away and started calling himself God. Lucifer wanted to break Earl’s idolatry by proving he had killed Toby; however, Chloe disagreed since he had cost her a few days’ worth of interviews because he decided not to follow orders.

[00:08:50] Lucifer admitted himself into the psychiatric ward. He had gained admission by harassing the front desk staff and telling him that he was Lucifer Morningstar. Meanwhile, someone had stolen Dan’s pudding from the precinct fridge. He could no longer hold his anger, so he started calling out his fellow cops for stealing his pudding; however, it was Charlotte who had stolen his pudding. She even asked Dan if he wanted to taste it. Charlotte told Dan that she needed something to distract her since she wasn’t able to return to heaven as she had expected. Dan declined her offer and responded that he would rather be alone in the dark than spend time with her. Dan left as Charlotte was turned on by his response.

[00:10:30] Lucifer mingled with the patients of the psychiatric ward; he saw God Johnson while he played invisible poker with the other patients. Before he could approach him, a patient threw Lucifer his underwear. Dr. Garrity intervened and assisted the patient; however, God Johnson was already gone. Lucifer found God Johnson out in the hallway. It looked like he was trying to strangle another patient; however, closer inspection revealed it was the other way around. God was trying to save the patient who had a slit throat; God touched her neck and performed a miracle. Lucifer knew that it was his father and punched him in the face. Chloe went to the hospital to interview Lucifer, and he told Chloe that he had gotten himself admitted in order to help the case. Lucifer added that it wasn’t God Johnson who had killed Toby; it was Santa Claus. Chloe approached Dr. Garrity in hopes of having him help Lucifer.

[00:14:50] Lucifer visited God Johnson’s room in order to talk with him. He let out his emotions and demanded an apology from him. Lucifer was convinced that everything that had happened to him was God’s doing; however, God told him that it was his own fault since he had free will. Lucifer nearly turned into a demon while demanding an apology; however, Linda suddenly arrived. Chloe told Maze about Dr. Garrity; she wanted Chloe to invite him over on the booze cruise. Maze offered to help Chloe get a date, but she declined. Chloe returned to the precinct to ask Ella if she had found any evidence linking the killing to Santa Claus. Ella had found long white hair on the victim’s clothes suggesting that it could be Santa Claus. Chloe checked the patient list and found one guy who looked like Santa Claus. She called Maze to ask for her assistance.

[00:19:10] Lucifer pushed Linda in a wheelchair. She was shocked that God Johnson was indeed God himself. Lucifer realized that God still had feelings for Goddess, so he thought of a new way to punish them both for manipulating him. Lucifer gathered all the patients and used his powers to find out their desires. He told them to act on their desires and help him escape the hospital. They sounded the fire alarm as Lucifer and God Johnson used the chaos to escape the hospital. They met Linda near a door as she helped them leave the hospital. Lucifer introduced God to Linda; she did a little curtsy; however, he told her that a handshake would do. Maze set up a date for Chloe at their apartment. Chloe told Maze that a threesome wouldn’t be on the menu. The doorbell rang, and Amenadiel was at the door.

[00:23:20] Goddess went to Lux; however, the place was dark. She called out to Lucifer, but God was sitting at the piano waiting for her. Linda asked Lucifer about his plan. He told her that he was trying to make his parents fall in love again. Linda didn’t understand how he was going to get his revenge, so Lucifer explained further. He told Linda that after a while, Goddess and God would start to destroy one another all over again. Goddess spoke to God Johnson, who introduced himself as God. She kicked him in his genitals for sending her to hell.

[00:25:20] Dr. Garrity had pizza with Amenadiel, Maze, and Chloe. Maze tried to Chloe seduce the doctor; however, she didn’t want to have sex with him. Maze wondered why Amenadiel visited them. Amenadiel told her that it wouldn’t be long before he left, but Maze didn’t understand. Amenadiel realized that Lucifer hadn’t told Maze about their plan, so he had no choice but to tell her himself. He told Maze that the three of them were going back to heaven. Chloe interviewed Dr. Garrity in hopes of getting a lead for their case. He received a text and informed Chloe that Lucifer had escaped the hospital along with God Johnson. Back at Lux, Goddess and God Johnson were getting along quite nicely. He apologized to her and asked her to dance.

[00:30:50] Chloe arrived at Lux to stop the party. The police took God Johnson with them and returned him to the hospital. Chloe spoke with Lucifer, who had one day left at the hospital. He told Chloe the truth; however, she didn’t believe him. Chloe apologized to Dr. Garrity for trying to use him for the case. He still assisted Chloe and gave her a patient file where she found a picture of someone dressed as Santa Claus. Dr. Garrity didn’t understand the significance of Santa Claus since someone dressed up like him every year. He told Chloe that he also dressed up as Santa Claus for his patients. Chloe and Dr. Garrity checked the storage box where the costume was kept. He saw that the hat and beard were missing. Chloe wanted to know who else had access to the storage box; she also suggested that Dr. Garrity wear handcuffs.

[00:34:00] Someone dressed as Santa Claus approached Lucifer and knocked him out. Lucifer lay on a stretcher as the culprit pushed him beside God Johnson. The drugs didn’t affect God Johnson; however, they affected Lucifer because Chloe was still within range, making him mortal. God Johnson recognized Nurse Kipsy’s voice. She removed the mask and told them that she needed to kill them since they knew her identity. Chloe lifted a fingerprint using chalk and sent it to Ella for processing. The print belonged to Patricia Hightower; Dr. Garrity informed Chloe that the patient God Johnson had attacked was Sue Hightower. Ella sent the picture that belonged to the print from a license registration, and Chloe showed it to Dr. Garrity. He recognized the lady in the picture as Nurse Kipsy.

[00:36:15] Nurse Kipsy wanted revenge. She had drugged her mother until she went crazy; however, one of the orderlies discovered her plan and wanted to tell on her, so she had killed him. Lucifer tried to escape from the stretcher, but he couldn’t. Nurse Kipsy planned on killing Lucifer and making it look like God had killed him before he committed suicide. Chloe arrived before Nurse Kipsy could carry out her plan. Lucifer spoke to God again; however, he had returned to his normal self. He noticed the belt buckle on the floor and realized what had happened.

[00:39:25] Lucifer returned to Lux and showed the buckle to Amenadiel. He attached the buckle to the flaming sword, where it acted as the guard; however, it didn’t attach properly. Lucifer wanted to ask Goddess about the missing piece of the sword, but she wasn’t around. Goddess went to Dan; she knew that Earl wasn’t God the moment she had kissed him. Goddess explained to Dan that she just didn’t want to feel alone that night, so he let her inside his apartment. The next day, Lucifer bid Earl farewell. He asked Earl what the last thing that he remembered was. Earl responded that he had gotten off work and picked up the belt buckle from a gift shop. The next thing he knew, Earl woke up lying next to Lucifer in the hospital.

[00:43:00] Lucifer resented his father even more as he realized that God wouldn’t have said the things Earl had said to him. It was enough to fuel his passion for returning to heaven to destroy God.
