Showrunners Say 'Lucifer' Season 4 on Netflix Will Break From It's Original Idea

After the save by Netflix, the TV series Lucifer, which got canceled by Fox, will continue with its fourth season. The streaming giant also purchased and commissioned ten episodes, but it’s possible that Lucifer Season 4 could run longer if the bonus episodes are included.

Lucifer is a fantasy police procedural drama that got mixed reviews during its first season, while the following seasons gained acclaim. Despite efforts, ratings remained consistently low throughout the series, hence, the cancellation by Fox. In an interview with TVLine, co-showrunner Joe Henderson confirmed that the production of Lucifer Season 4 will start around August. “We’re hitting the ground running,” Henderson said. “Everyone is primed and ready”

The showrunner added that the TV series would stick to roughly 43 minutes per episode, and mentioned that there might be room for flexibility, and hopefully, they won’t be cutting scenes they love. On the contrary, Henderson also said that “you forget that editing is your friend. Sometimes cutting something is a good thing.”

Henderson, along with co-showrunner Idly Modrovich, are busy working out how to shape the upcoming season of Lucifer to fit the streaming order and breaking their original idea in half, starting with one chunk, for now. Netflix’s season 4 plans for the show will now have to follow its original first half of the storyline. But as Henderson and Modrovich mentioned, the series will have two parts—with the first portion starting off strong and gnarly.

Netflix saved the show because of its fan base and reach. Fortunately, the previous seasons of Lucifer will be available on Netflix. This definitely is not the last of Lucifer, as celebrating Lucifans are now waiting for the next season and anticipating what could the other part be.

“There is always the potential for more,” Modrovich also said.
