Marvel Announces Cast For 'New Warriors' Show On Freeform

Finally, the much-awaited new Marvel show to come to television, “New Mutants” is ready to soar soon! Actors Milana Vayntrub and Derek Theler were both named as the show’s leads, Squirrel Girl and Mister Immortal. “New Warriors” follows a bunch of young people on the cusp of adulthood—with their not-so-super powers and a whole lot to learn how to be superheroes. This is also Marvel’s first venture into the superhero comedy genre, which makes it all the more exciting.

Marvel did the announcement earlier this week for the 10-episode series set to premiere in 2018 on Freeform. The “New Warriors” are composed of six young adults ‘with powers and abilities on the opposite end of the spectrum of the Avengers’ while living and working together.

Kevin Biegel (Comedy Town) will serve as showrunner for “New Warriors.” “I am thrilled beyond belief to be working with this incredible group of actors,” Biegel said. “They are funny, sincere, eager, charming and perfectly embody these characters.”

Meet The ‘New Warriors’ Cast

Milana Vayntrub (Silicon Valley, This Is Us) will be playing Marvel fan favorite Squirrel Girl. Also known as Doreen Green Squirrel Girl has the power to communicate with squirrels. She has a squirrel best friend named Tippy Toe. “Doreen is confident and has the powers of a squirrel,” Marvel said. “She’s acrobatic, can fight and talk to other squirrels. Her most important trait is that she has faith in people and teaches them to believe in themselves.”

Derek Theler (Baby Daddy) will also be playing another lead character named Craig Hollis/Mister Immortal. As his superhero name suggests, his powers make him immortal—or so he thinks. Craig has all the time in the world to be the superhero that he can be; however, he’s in no rush to prove himself to people.

Jeremy Tardy (Dear White People) plays Dwayne Taylor/Night Thrasher. Marvel describes him as “a shameless self-promoter and entrepreneur who also deeply believes in justice.”

Calum Worthy (Austin & Ally) plays Robbie Baldwin/Speedball. According to Marvel, Robbie has “a misplaced sense of confidence who throws kinetic balls of energy that are completely out of control.”

Matthew Moy (2 Broke Girls) plays Zack Smith/Microbe. He is a hypochondriac who has the ability to talk to germs, which then reveals to him where a person has been, what he ate and who the person has hung out with. Well, it’s going to be tough to be around this guy if you have a lot of secrets.

Lastly, we’ve got Kate Corner (Hello, My Name Is Doris) who plays Deborah Fields/Debrii. She is a funny low-level kinetic. Her powers are so weak that she can barely move a paper cup.

“New Warriors” will have 10 half-hour episodes set to premiere in 2018 on Freeform.
